Hangover cures

The morning after a night of partying can be harsh. Hangover cures are a myth. Plain and simple. There is no cure for a hangover but there are things you can do to help ease your pain. You knew you should of avoided that last shot or glass of wine or beer! Whatever your poison is? You feel like total ass right now.  The best cure is to not drink at all or in moderation. To know your limit but nahhhhh, that’s no fun!

    1. Alka Seltzer -Seltzer varieties contain sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda), which will help settle a queasy belly by neutralizing stomach acid.
    2. Coconut water with 1 tablespoon of honey and a emerge-c powder packet. Coconut water is loaded with potassium and other vitamins which  will help your body with dehydration.  Honey is acclaimed by scientists for its ability to aid the body in quickly breaking down all the alcohol you consumed. The antioxidant properties in honey helps to  neutralize the toxins created by consuming alcohol. Dr. John Emsley, UK Popular Science writer and chemistry academic, claims the natural fructose in honey helps the body rapidly metabolize alcohol. The Emerge-c packet re-boosts the vitamin & Electrolytes lost during all those bathroom visits. remember Alcohol is a diuretic. Before you turn in, stir a couple of spoonfuls of honey into a glass of hot water and drink it down).

Things to remember

  • Stay away from  Coffee- the caffeine narrows your blood vessels and boosts blood pressure. which  in return might make your the hangover worse.
  • Don’t ever drink on an empty stomach. Before you head out on a night on the town or a friends back yard cookout. Eat a  meal that includes carbohydrates (such as pasta or rice) or fats. The food will help slow down the body’s absorption of alcohol.
  • Drink water or non-fizzy soft drinks in between each alcoholic drink.
  • Drink at-least 16oz’s of water before you go to sleep. Keep a glass of water by the bed to sip if you wake up during the night.
  • Please always have a designated driver. Never put  your life in danger or someone else!

Remember Alcohol Can Be Deadly

There are a few warning signs that you shouldn’t take lightly. per wedmd.com

Multiple vomiting. This is simply your body’s natural way of quickly getting rid of the toxins in alcohol — not a bad thing by itself. But it can rapidly lead to potentially life-threatening dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Lay off the liquor and start drinking lots of water.

Passing out. If someone drinking heavily passes out, and doesn’t respond when you try to wake them, take that person to a local emergency room. People in that condition are in danger of choking on their own vomit or going into shock.

What are electrolytes, and why do we need them?

Here we are making a big fuss over electrolytes, but what are they really? And why do they matter? I could write a dense (at least) six page article on electrolytes, but I’ll spare you (unless you want to go to sleep, then I can send you a copy.) There are tons of electrolytes out there, but in our bodies they are basically calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium chloride, hydrogen phosphate (a mineral) and hydrogen carbonate (a salt.) These electrolytes are vital for survival-not only could we not function if we didn’t have them, if we dilute them too much, it can lead to death by “water poisoning.” They regulate our nerve and muscle function, our hydration, the pH of our blood, rebuilding damaged tissue, and determining blood pressure. One example of their job would be in order for a muscle to contract-from your heart to the tiniest toe muscle- it needs the electrolytes calcium, sodium, and potassium. Too little and muscles become weak, too much and they over contract.
