I was always tired, no matter how many hour of sleep I got each night. I had constant brain fog. I was always cold when others weren’t. No matter what I did I couldn’t shed the lbs. These issues go hand in hand with my diagnosis of hypothyroidism. After being prescribed my hypothyroidism medications I still was having problems. It wasn’t getting any better. Many doctors over look adrenal fatigue since it is so similar in comparison with my hypothyroidism. The tests for thyroid and adrenal fatigue are often difficult to understand. The two are often confused or misdiagnosed. So, which one do you treat 1st? The chicken or the egg?
What were my adrenals glands?
My adrenals and my thyroid have a strange relationship. They contradict each other all the time. They have a topsy-turvy relationship in which when one thing goes up, the other goes down. My adrenals are my “life saving” organs because they control my body’s hormones and help me to survive in stressful situations. The adrenals act as the control organs for my “fight or flight” response and secrete many of our most important hormones including: pregnenolone, adrenaline, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA and cortisol.
Adrenal fatigue is more often than none misunderstood as an autoimmune disorder. Adrenal fatigue can impersonate and look like other common illnesses and diseases. Adrenal fatigue can be caused by:
Stressful experiences like death of loved one, divorce or surgery
Exposure to environmental toxins and pollution
Prolonged stress due to financial hardship, bad relationships or work environment, and other conditions that entail feelings of despair
Negative thinking and emotional trauma
Lack of sleep
Poor diet and lack of exercise
Unknowingly my adrenals were constantly stressed which set off a chain reaction to my immune system and set up shop for inflammation through my entire body. The adrenal-hypothalamus-pituitary reaction circle controls the release of cortisol. All of my organs and my immunity were being impacted negatively by the resulting continuous hit of cortisol. Actually since my adrenals were out of whack it was causing my hypothyroidism to be much worse than it would be normally. Could this be the reason for my latest diagnosis of Hashimoto’s? Could my weakened adrenal glands be the main reason why I developed a thyroid condition in the 1st place? My life was a chaotic world wind of craziness. I was going to school fulltime to be a nurse and just had my twins which added 3 kids under the age of three. Yes, I was exhausted mentally, physically and what was that thing called sleep? Years of poor eating habits and/or chronic stress had finally caught up with me. All those carb loaded, over processed , refined foods and sugars had also caused an imbalance in my insulin and cortisol hormones.
According to the Endocrine Society, adrenal fatigue is a myth promoted by health books and alternative medicine websites. “There are no scientific facts to support the theory that long-term mental, emotional, or physical stress drains the adrenal glands and causes many common symptoms,” the society says on the Hormone Health Network website.
The constant abuse that I put on my adrenal glands from the bad eating choices and chronic stress lead to more secretion of cortisol which weaken my adrenal glands and lead to my adrenal fatigue.
Symptoms of adrenal fatigue are very similar to symptoms of hypothyroidism. People might experience all of these are just a few . Some of the more common ones:
• Extremely tired, especially in the morning
• Find it difficult to obtain quality sleep
• Crave sweet and salty foods
• Feel stressed out most of the time
• Decreased sex drive
What I’ve come to understand is in most cases, a malfunctioning thyroid gland isn’t the actual cause of the problem. Hypothyroidism has a root cause. My goal was to figure our what was causing my weakened adrenals and to start addressing those issues. 1st I started to address the what I ate. I added more things like:
Food is thy medicine, right? Actually, it can work one of two ways. Food can be thy medicine or food can be thy death. This book is a guide that will inform you from the perspective of a women. You will also be able to determine what areas in your life that may need a little bit of work and the skills needed to improve those issues along with some fabulous recipes to help get you started on how to eat KETO AIP. I will also help you understand how to fix your gut, strengthen your immunity and fight inflammation with an autoimmune approach. The Keto AIP removes all the common inflammatory food triggers that stimulate a possible autoimmune reaction in the body. We’re going to start resetting those adrenals, boosting that energy and doing a little booty kicking to those hormones that have decided to act like a wild college student and pull an all-nighter the day before final exams.

Your thyroid has been having a relationship with your adrenal gland. It’s never been straight forward with your body and it never will be. That butterfly shaped gland in the front of you neck does more than control your metabolism. Your thyroid puts out hormones in your body that knock on every cell and tells it what to do basically but for some reason when you have hypothyroidism those cells refuse to answer the door.
Your adrenal gland is only the size of a walnut and are locked on top of each of your kidney’s. She is in charge of producing vital hormones that help regulate your body’s functions which include two major important things in your life your sex hormones and your cortisol levels.
Your Cortisol is more than just a steroid hormone that is made in the cortex of the adrenal gland. It has a greater task than just being tagged as your fight or flight response system. Almost every cell in our body contains receptors for cortisol. When your stress levels are high cortisol is released into your blood stream. Your body isn’t designed for you to be in a constant state of emergency. Your adrenal gland doesn’t know the difference between a true emergency or just being stressed out. So in return she will continue to produce extra cortisol into your blood stream. After a while of pumping out the constant need for cortisol she will become weakened and start decreasing her ability to produce cortisol and instead produce extra adrenaline. This is what makes us feel shaky, lightheaded and anxious. This can start leading our body towards adrenal fatigue syndrome. Cortisol is also released by two other major players in your body your hypothalamus in the brain and your pituitary gland.
Your hypothalamus job is to keep your body in a constant stable condition. It’s like a supervisor that collects and combines information and puts changes in place to correct any imbalances. The hypothalamus also tells your pituitary gland how much hormones to release and store. Next what happens is your pituitary gland will produces the chemical messengers, also known as hormones, that stimulate the adrenal gland to secrete who is in charge of producing vital hormones that help regulate your body’s functions which include two major important things in your life your sex hormones and your cortisol levels.
The million Dollar Question
Back to the million dollar question what does all this have to do with my thyroid. So, when the adrenal glands are weakened from one or more of the causes I discussed above, what happens is that it puts the body in a state of catabolism. What this means is that the body begins to break down, which as you can imagine isn’t a good thing. As you probably know, the thyroid gland puts out hormones in your body that knock on every cell and tells it what to do basically. So when the body is in a state of catabolism, the thyroid gland will slow down in order to slow down the catabolic process.
The light Bulb Moment
Is this all starting to make sense now? What we need to realize is in most cases, the malfunctioning thyroid gland isn’t the actual cause of the problem. Other areas of the body are usually responsible for the thyroid condition. Many hypothyroid symptoms are very similar to adrenal fatigue that they are often confuse or misdiagnosed.
On top of all this confusion, the tests performed for thyroid and adrenal problems are often difficult to interpret correctly.
Why doesn’t your medical doctor check to see if its adrenal fatigue instead of just labeling you with a thyroid condition? The main reason is because your medical doctors aren’t trained in medical school to evaluate the entire endocrine system. They are trained to treat your symptoms with medication and surgery. Webster’s online dictionary give this definition: a person who is skilled in the science of medicine : a person who is trained and licensed to treat sick and injured people. You should see a endocrinologist if you’ve been diagnosed with any thyroid disorder.
Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body.
Why should you take a thyroid replacement pill when you really need actually have adrenal fatigue ? This is where a endocrinologist can help. Hypothyroidism can also be by nutrient deficiencies and not your adrenal gland. This is why you should also look into seeing a Holistic medicine practitioner. They believe that the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health.
All is not lost!
I wanted you to understand or get a idea of how everything has a part to play in your body. Being diagnosed with hypothyroidism isn’t just here take this pill and it will fix your issues. Hypothyroidism has a root cause. Once you start addressing the root of your problems then your body can start healing itself. Your body is an awesome design but there is a complex balance between everything. It’s a domino affect. If you have something in your body that is overworked it will cause a major shift in your body. Don’t worry the good news is it can be healed.
Food is not just calories it is information. It talks to your DNA and tells it what to do. Your most powerful tool to change your health is your fork. You can’t go long periods without food. Your body always needs energy. If your blood sugar starts to drop this creates a stress reaction and now your adrenal glands will do what it needs to do to maintain your body’s function by releasing more cortisol or adrenaline. Eating often will help put your body back in its normal cycle. You should eat foods that nourish your body and not hinder it.
The following table outlines the key differences in the signs and symptoms between adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism.

“Canker sores have plagued humans throughout history.”
Canker sores are pretty common: About 1 in 5 people have them. The good news is, they usually go away on their own.
Canker sores (also known as aphthous ulcers) only happen inside the mouth. You can get them on or under the tongue and on the inside of the cheeks and lips — the parts of the mouth that can move. They usually pop up alone, but sometimes they show up in small clusters.
It’s hard sometimes to pin point the exact reasoning why 1 out of every 5th person is plagued with outbreaks. Researchers suspect that a combination of different and various factors do contributes to the outbreaks.
Thank goodness the mouth sores don’t last longer than 14 to 15 days. If you haven’t already consulted with your doctor and don’t have a history of canker sores you should probably consult a medical doctor or dentist if they stay for more than 8 to 10 days. Not to scare you but sometimes in rare cases canker sores may be an indication of some other disease slowly developing in the body.
What Are the Symptoms of Canker Sores?
You may have a canker sore if you have:
A painful sore or sores inside your mouth — on the tongue, on the soft palate (the back portion of the roof of your mouth), or inside your cheeks
A tingling or burning sensation before the sores appear
Sores in your mouth that are round, white or gray, with a red edge or border
Possible triggers for canker sores include:
A minor injury to your mouth from dental work, overzealous brushing, sports mishaps or an accidental cheek bite
Toothpastes and mouth rinses containing sodium lauryl sulfate
Food sensitivities, particularly to chocolate, coffee, strawberries, eggs, nuts, cheese, and spicy or acidic foods
A diet lacking in vitamin B-12, zinc, folate (folic acid) or iron
An allergic response to certain bacteria in your mouth
Certain foods — including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes, and strawberries)
Helicobacter pylori, the same bacteria that cause peptic ulcers
Hormonal shifts during menstruation
Emotional stress
Vitamin deficiency
Nutritional deficiency
Poor immune system
Stress/injury
Fruits and vegetables (highly acidic)
Canker sores may also occur because of certain conditions and diseases, such as:
Celiac disease, a serious intestinal disorder caused by a sensitivity to gluten, a protein found in most grains
Inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
Behcet’s disease, a rare disorder that causes inflammation throughout the body, including the mouth
A faulty immune system that attacks healthy cells in your mouth instead of pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria
HIV/AIDS, which suppresses the immune system
history of cancer
Dental Health and Canker Sores
Oral hygiene is most important when it comes to canker sore prevention. You need to choose an antibacterial, sugar-free toothpaste that is free from harsh chemicals.
You should call your dentist about canker sores if you have:
Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oil both have anti-inflammatory properties, while also possibly working as anti-microbial agents (thus reducing chance of infection.) astringents to help tighten the tissues around the wound, relieving further discomfort caused by swelling or potential fluid buildup. The cooling properties of both of these oils can also numb the nerve endings that are firing off.
Pour the olive into the glass mister bottle, and add the essential oils. Cap, shake well, and spray some directly onto the canker sore as needed for pain relief. Shake before each use.
Chamomile consists of several daisy-like plants that are most commonly used to induce sleep, promote relaxation, and help with digestion-it works a treat with cramping since it can help relax painful spasms in the digestive track. A chemical compound called bisabolol, or levomenol, is found naturally in German chamomile, and has been shown to reduce inflammation and also have antiseptic properties. Both of these properties will help reduce the pain of canker sores and potentially help speed the healing process.
Soak the chamomile in water for 1 minute or so if using a teabag. After soaking place it directly against the sore for 5-10 minutes twice daily to help relieve discomfort and promote speedy healing.
When in doubt, use coconut oil! Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and also incredibly tasty, coconut oil is almost fail-safe when it comes to getting rid of canker sores.
Using clean hands or a cotton swab, dab a liberal amount of coconut oil onto the sore. Try to get a somewhat thick layer or clump on there-coconut oil melts rapidly and a thin layer just seems to slide right off. If you feel like you really can’t get it to stick, melt 1 tablespoon down with ½ teaspoon or so of beeswax to thicken it.
With its antibacterial, and potentially anti-inflammatory, properties, raw organic honey makes a wonderfully soothing coating for a painful canker sore.
Swish some warm water in your mouth, and then apply a thick dab of organic raw honey directly to the sore. Reapply 2-3 times daily (at least one of those times should be before night, as it seems to do best when you aren’t bothering it by talking or eating.)
Rinse your mouth several times a day. You can use 1 cup of warm water mixed with 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and 1/8 teaspoon salt, followed by rinsing your mouth with plain water. Use an extra-soft toothbrush and a mild toothpaste. You can soften your toothbrush in hot water before using it
5.Wax Cap
If you have a sore that keeps rubbing against your tooth, or if you have braces and or dentures that are irritating the sore, putting a little wax “capping” over the surface can help reduce irritating friction against the sore and help speed up the healing time. If you are placing this over braces, it’s important to make it thick enough that it doesn’t just get ground into the brace and stuck.
Melt down the beeswax and coconut oil and allow the mixture to cool slightly. When it has cooled, gently press a dollop over the edge of your tooth/braces/dentures to protect the canker sore from rubbing.
Cayenne contains a substance called capsaicin, which is the same chemical constituent that makes it “hot.” Capsaicin can inhibit something called Substance P, which is responsible for mediating pain responses in the body. Because of this, cayenne makes a great home remedy for canker sores, even though it sounds like the opposite thing you’d want to use!
Mix just enough warm water with ground cayenne pepper to form a thick paste. Use a cotton swab to apply directly to the canker sore. Reapply 2-3 times daily for pain relief
The king (or queen) of soothing plants-aloe! The gel from this magnificent plant wields mighty powers when it comes to soothing not just sunburn, but canker sores as well. Make sure you use natural gel-not the green kind.
Stir the gel into the water and swish it gently over the sore 3 time’s day to ease the pain and facilitate healing.
8.Eat Yogurt
Yogurt is made from fermented milk-delicious, yes? It is produced by bacterial fermentation, that is, using bacteria or yeast to convert carbohydrates into organic acids. The result is a tangy bacteria rich substance that is enjoyed worldwide. You most often hear of it restoring a healthy balance to gut flora, but eaten daily yogurt may one of the home remedies for canker sores you find yourself going to frequently. It’s a simple healthy remedy that may help because it balances out bacteria in your mouth which, if it was out of balance, may contribute to or cause a canker sore.
You will need…
-Plain yogurt with live cultures
Directions
Make sure the label on the yogurt confirms that it contains live cultures, and make sure you get plain-not vanilla! Eat at the very minimum 1 tablespoon 3 times daily. I usually eat around a cup and add a little bit of raw honey for taste and an extra healing boost!
When the salt content around cells is greater on the outside than the inside osmosis takes place, with water being drawn from in the cells to help balance out the concentration. When water is drawn out, the painful puffiness that excess fluid can cause is diminished. If you have a canker sore that is really puffed up that keeps rubbing or that you keep biting, gargling with salt water can help greatly. This is also why salt water gargles help with a sore throat-reducing the painful swelling of the cells in the mucous membrane at the back of the throat. The warm water also produces a general sense of soothing relief, while the salt may help keep the area clean.
Sip a small amount and use it as a mouth rinse, making sure to rinse the canker sore itself. This home remedy works as an antacid, neutralizing the acids in the mouth that cause your canker sore to sting. You can also dab milk of magnesia directly on the canker sore with a cotton swab 3 to 4 times a day; one variation mixes a teaspoon of milk of magnesia with a teaspoon of Benedryl liquid allergy medicine.
Sage kills bacteria and viruses, and contains compounds that reduce inflammation. Steep 2 teaspoons of dried sage in a cup of boiling water, covered. Let cool and use as a mouth rinse 2 or 3 times a day, making sure to swish the tea in the area of your mouth with the canker sore.
Hydrogen peroxide is a strong disinfectant and will protect your canker sore from becoming infected. Use hydrogen peroxide the same way you would use mouthwash, making sure not to swallow any of the liquid. Or try making a disinfecting mouth rinse by combining 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt. The baking soda is an alkaline, which provides extra relief by neutralizing acids. Hydrogen peroxide and salt will both help the sore to heal.
Munch a chewable Pepto-Bismol, Tums, or Rolaids tablet or put it on the sore and allow it to dissolve. The pain you feel from a canker sore is caused by acids and digestive enzymes eating into the tissue in the sore, and the tablets will neutralize the acids and may also speed healing. Check the label for dosage directions.
Cut open a vitamin E capsule and squeeze a bit of the liquid onto the sore. The oil will coat the sore to help protect it from infection and help it heal more quickly.
Sold in most health-food stores, licorice tea is an excellent way to treat and eliminate canker sores. Use one tea bag per cup of boiling water and step, covered for 10 minutes, then drink
Mouth sores can be reduced and gradually cured via the use of apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is mildly acidic in nature. This acidic touch conceals the power of apple cider vinegar in treating canker sores. The bacteria causing mouth sores fail to bear the acidic nature of apple cider vinegar. Thus, they die. It effectively cures mouth sores. Thus, apple cider vinegar is a good home remedy for treating mouth sores.
17. Ice Chips
You can apply ice to your canker sores by allowing ice chips to slowly dissolve over the sores.
Do not eat candy or chocolate. The high sugar will mess up the lining in your mouth and cause ulcers to form.
What Not to Eat There are some exceptions to the soft foods you can eat. You’ll want to avoid citrus fruits and drinks, including pineapple, grapefruit, grapefruit juice, oranges, orange juice, lemons and limes. The acidity in these will aggravate your sore and might even cause more to appear. Similarly, spicy and salty foods will cause you more discomfort. For this reason, chips, pretzels and popcorn are out of the question. Also, chips, toast, nuts and other dry, crunchy foods are painful to eat.
Best Foods for Preventing Canker Sores

Ingredients 3 Large Carrots 100g of Kale 50g of Feta 1/4 Cup of Mixed Seeds (Pumpkin, Sunflower, Sesame etc) For the Dressing: 1 Teaspoon of Dijon Mustard 1 Teaspoon of Honey 1 Tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar 3 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
Start by grating your carrot, then add it to a large bowl. Next shred your kale- remove the leaves from the stalks and then chop the kale into strips. Drizzle it with a little olive oil and use your hands to squeeze and massage kale until it’s soft and bright green. Because it’s sliced so small this will only take a minute or so!
Add the kale to the bowl and then chop your feta and add it in too. Pop the seeds in a pan on medium heat to toast while you make the dressing. Combine all the dressing ingredients in a glass or jar and whisk them together. When the seeds are toasted and plump sprinkle them over the salad and toss everything in the dressing.
Cleansing Carrot, Cucumber, Apple, Kale & Ginger Juice or Smoothie
Start by washing your apple & cucumber, next slice the apples ( throw the core away) and cucumbers where it will fit into the juicer , You can leave their skins on
Then put everything through the juicer – I try to rotate the things that I juice. For instance, juice a piece of carrot, next an apple, next some cucumber, so on, so on, . If the froth is a bit to much you can strain the juice through a mesh strainer. it will catch a lot of the froth. I personally enjoy the froth and I just pour the juice over ice. and drink it with a straw . if you don’t want to juice this recipe you can also blend it in a high powered blender. This way you would get all the fiber too.
