To all you thyroid warriors out there. Never forget how far you’ve come and everything you’ve been through.
The panic attacks, the anxiety, the heart palpitations, the insomnia, the hair loss, the weight gain and the list seems endless. All the times you’ve pushed forward when you wanted to quit and felt like you couldn’t. Each morning you got out of bed crippled with exhaustion and knowing the world couldn’t possibly understand how hard this is. All the times you wanted to give up but still managed to pull yourself through another day. All the times you were knocked down but always got back up. Never forget how much strength you have learned and developed.

Sometimes, I want to shake people and say, “Wake Up”! You have the power to make a difference in your life. You’ve always had the power. People are using products on their body and in their homes and that are hormone disruptors. No one can force you to become more aware of what you put on your body and what you put in your body. What you eat is just as important as what you put on your body. Adjusting your life, reading labels and catering to your specific health needs isn’t easy but it will benefit you in the long run. This is one of the smartest decisions that you can make. Not only will you start to look and feel better but think of the medical cost that you could be saving your future self.
Makeup can be fun, and anyone who wants to wear it should. However, it does seem to bother me when women aren’t aware that they are applying hundreds of layers of chemicals on their face or body. Although you may be enhancing your own personal appearance the chemicals in conventional makeup are often very harsh on the skin.
Beauty products gives me that confidence boost that I personally need to get through my day. It makes me feel comfortable, confident, empowered and bold in my skin. I also believe that it can be a form of art. This allows each individual to express themselves with makeup, body lotions and perfumes. Diet alone isn’t enough to help your body start fighting this battle that is raging in your body. The food you eat is your first line of defense against these hormone-disrupting chemicals are external substances that alter the functions of the endocrine system (the system of glands that produce secretions that help to control bodily activity). You must start addressing other areas in your life that can cause inflammation.
Endocrine disruptors are tricky chemicals that play on our bodies. They increase production of certain hormones; decreasing production of others; imitating hormones; turning one hormone into another; interfering with hormone signaling; telling cells to die prematurely; competing with essential nutrients; binding to essential hormones; accumulating in organs that produce hormones. You can start avoiding these chemicals by starting with detoxifying your beauty routine.
If you want to protect your body from the harmful ingredients that are used in most commercial brands, you should check out organic skin care products and organic make-up. Start reading labels and asking questions. There is definitely a way to become Successful when you start to detox your beauty routine and exchange it for clean Beauty Swaps. I am going to show you where and how to begin—and why you should —along with a list of some easy switch outs.
Government regulations allow virtually any ingredient to be used in the manufacture of products that we use daily on our skin, hair, and nails, and in the water we drink. It only makes sense to start doing your own research.
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) establishes the regulations and standards in the United States regarding the manufacture of drugs & food. The problem is that they do not pay as much attention to skin care and make-up as they should, thereby allowing some very harmful chemicals to be used in creating almost every product that is mass marketed. Close to 20% of personal-care products contain at least one chemical linked to cancer, and yet the FDA has not regulated beauty ingredients since 1938. I’m also speaking of the same FDA who has approved aspartame, saccharin, human growth hormone in our food products. Along with nasty artificial colorings, flavorings and chemicals which have proven to harm our health.
I do site all my sources but with a little bit of research anyone can find what they are looking for too. Unfortunately, webpages can easily be taken down as quickly as they pop up. Therefore, some of my sited sources are no longer good links. Therefore , my article doesn’t have a good leg at the moment to stand on but I will add more legible links when I get the time. I have no control over webpages being taken down or if they are no longer available and for that I do apologize. That is something completely out of my control. There will always be someone who will disagree with things you post, say or do. I will add more sources at the end of this comment but it won’t matter if someone is hell bent on disagreeing with you ( not saying you are at all ) or proving you are wrong then it is what it is.
The skin isn’t the impenetrable barrier as one might think and yes, that percentage can be changed depending on many different factors. The chemical burden on the body has other pathways such as being inhaled and ingested. These ingredients from those products also eventually make in our blood stream too. Your skin is not the only pathway but your question is about it taking 26 seconds for chemicals to enter into your body by your skin. Statistics say, “your skin absorbs 60% of what you put on it,” but that isn’t entirely true while others believe that our skin is the ultimate impenetrable barrier but that isn’t entirely true either.
Skin absorption rates vary greatly among different parts of the body; for example, the chemical absorption rate on your forehead and scalp is about four times greater than the absorption rate on your forearms.
I think, the answer lies all depending on the person.
The 26 second entry way can vary depending on the person and the type of chemical used. Yes, our body’s largest organ does protect us from the daily onslaught and can stop certain chemicals from getting into our bodies at a higher and faster % rate than 26 seconds but one thing is absolutely clear: it is impossible to put an exact figure on this absorption rate because it all depends on the person, their health condition, their skin condition and of course and where it is placed. The skin barrier is dependent on many other factors too. The skin is not uniform ( meaning we are all different) in terms of thickness, epidermis to dermis ratio, density of hair follicles, and many other parameters that will affect the absorption %. The amount of material that may be absorbed will, as a consequence, vary depending on the anatomical site of the exposure like I mentioned prior. For example, exposure to highly permeable sites such as scrotal skin can result in uptake some 50 times greater than the same exposure applied to the thicker, less permeable skin of the legs and abdomen. Every person is different and every chemical is different. It is always good to question what you put on your skin but your body’s response will be for each individual. My advice to anyone? Question everything but always read your labels, understand what you’re putting on your skin and consider a gentler alternative if you want or need one. There’s nothing wrong with being cautious. If you don’t want to use certain ingredients, then cosmetic chemists need to look for alternatives.
Ultimately, the customer is in charge.
It’s always great to question everything and figure out for yourself what you hold to be true. I personally, make my own skin products, read labels and am very aware of things because I do believe that the onslaught of these chemicals we put on our bodies is harming and damaging us in a great way. No matter if it takes 26 seconds or 3 days is still more than I care to take a chance on…
If you want to protect your body from the harmful ingredients that are used in most commercial brands, you should check out organic skin care products and organic make-up. Start reading labels and asking questions. There is definitely a way to become Successful when you start to detox your beauty routine and exchange it for clean Beauty Swaps. Have you taken the time to read or google what is in your personal body care products?
Some of the harmful ingredients that are used frequently in manufacturing the most common non-organic skin care and make-up items include:
The FDA doesn’t regulate what ingredients go into makeup products or the labels that are placed on them. A lip gloss may be labeled “organic” or “all-natural,” but it could just be a marketing ploy. Manufacturers know that there is a higher demand for natural products these days, so they’ll do anything to convince consumers that what they’re selling is indeed natural. Sometimes these products only contain about 10 percent “natural” ingredients with the rest are those nasty ingredients that are full of toxins – toxins that could be linked to cancer and Alzheimer’s.
Mainstream cosmetics should be filled with nutrients that truly benefit your beauty and enhance your health.
Vitamin C: This antioxidant superpower fights free radicals, which attack the skin’s support structure and leads to imparting collagen and the aging of skin.
Vitamin E: This antioxidant soothes out the skin and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Vitamin A: This is important to help repair the skin. If seem to have dull, flaky, or quite brass skin, look for products that include this nutrient.
5 Ingredients to Avoid in Body Products
1. Parabens: Parabens are preservatives added to body products to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. Parabens are endocrine disruptors, meaning they can alter your hormone mechanisms in the body. They also mimic estrogen. Parabens can lock on to the cell’s own estrogen receptors and disrupt cellular communications.
BHA and BHT: This is put into products to extend the shelf life. These chemicals are probable carcinogens, endocrine disruptors and have been known to be hard on your liver.
Polyethylene glycol: Polyethylene glycol is used to make lotions and potions thicker, softer and easier for moisture to be added to the skin. Unfortunately, depending on the manufacturing process, PEG compounds are often contaminated with ethylene oxide and 1, 4-dioxane, both of which are carcinogens.
Fragrance: Fragrance just a term used to describe over 3,000 chemical ingredients. Companies do not have to disclose what ingredients make up their products when they list “fragrance” on the label because the term is protected by federal law (under trade secrets). Many chemicals listed as fragrance are endocrine disruptors and known allergens.
5. Mineral Oil (also called liquid paraffin, liquid petroleum, and paraffin oil): Mineral oil is a byproduct of crude oil called petroleum distillation is a nicer term but it’s frequently added to baby lotions.
Body Butter
4 oz. Shea butter
1 oz. coconut oil
1 oz. jojoba oil
6 drops cypress essential oil
4 drops cinnamon essential oil
6 drops wild orange essential oil
3 drops of pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil
In a double boiler over simmering water completely melt your shea butter. Remove from heat and add your coconut oil and jojoba oil. Blend together gently until completely mixed. Place the double boiler into an ice bath, make sure to not get any water into the mixture. Continue to mix until it begins to turn opaque. Lastly add your essential oils/extract/and antioxidant while stirring. I prefer to use a hand mixer to whip the mixture gently to where it will give it a soufflé-like texture.
After the mixture has cooled to room temperature transfer the body butter to a mason jar with a sealable lid using the spatula to avoid wasting any of the body butter. Seal the jar with your lid and allow it to sit overnight. Make sure to label and date your body butter’s lid.
Lemon Cream Body Butter
6 Tablespoons coconut oil
¼ cup cocoa butter
1 Tablespoon vitamin E oil
3 drops of Lemon essential oil or 3 drops of your favorite essential oil
Over low heat in a double boiler, put the coconut oil and cocoa butter in a bowl. When it has almost completely melted, remove from the heat and add the vitamin E oil and essential oil. Allow the mixture to cool until it solidifies. Lastly mix the body butter vigorously with a spatula, and then transfer it to a mason jar with a sealable lid. Date and label your product. If you don’t care for the lemon essential oil, use whatever smells best to you. This is your journey not mine I am only here to help guide you.
Homemade Shaving Cream
1 cup shea butter
1 cup virgin coconut oil
3 Tablespoons vitamin E oil
3 Tablespoons sweet almond oil or olive oil or jojoba oil
3 Tablespoons Dr. Bonners Liquid Castile Soap
30 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
30 drops of lemon essential oil (optional)
I like to use an electric mixer, mixing all ingredients until stiff peaks are formed (approximately 2-3 minutes). Store in a mason jar with a sealable lid.
DIY Skin Smoother Detox Bath
2 cups Epsom salt
2 cups baking soda
2 cups sea salt
1 cup vinegar
¼ cup of organic coconut oil (this will melt in the hot bath)
Directions: combine the dry ingredients, store in a closed container. When you are ready to take a bath add 1 cup of dry ingredients, 1 cup of vinegar and ¼ cup of coconut oil. (Kids can use up to a 1/2 cup of the mixture). Bathe 3 times weekly, soaking for at least 12 minutes.
Tub & Tile Cleaner
1 /4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup lemon juice
Or 10 drops of lemon essential oil
3 Tablespoons Epsom salt
3 Tablespoons Sal Suds or Castile liquid soap
1/2 cup white vinegar
Pour the vinegar into the bottle, followed by the baking soda and Epsom salt. Shake the bottle to combine the ingredients. Add the Sal suds gently shaking the bottle to combine. Mix all ingredients in a bottle with a sealable lid.
Scrub and then rinse with water and wet clean rag.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but soy is NOT a health food nor your friend. It’s most definitely not a heart healthy or “good for your thyroid” food either.
Soy not only disrupts hormones by mimicking estrogen in your body but it also causes inflammation, contributes to leaky gut syndrome and most likely has been genetically modified (GMO).
Have you noticed the “heart healthy” label from the American Heart Association on soy products? This friendly heart symbol is the result of the US Food and Drug Association deciding about 20 years ago upon some research that soy can lower the risk of heart disease. Sure, it can decrease and lower ‘so-called” bad cholesterol on a very small percentage scale but they fail to tell you the other side to the story.
Soy not only disrupts hormones by mimicking estrogen in your body but it also causes inflammation, contributes to leaky gut syndrome and most likely has been genetically modified (GMO).
In their assessment from 19 out of the 46 studies it showed a decrease in ‘so-called” bad cholesterol but did you know that it’s been proven that many elderly women who had higher cholesterol levels actually lived longer!
(On a side note: After my husband had his heart attack. Yes, it is in his genetic makeup and yes, he was eating badly. His father had 3 heart attacks before the last one killed my father in law. His heart doctor wanted my husband on statin medication and my husband is one of those people who takes what the doctor prescribes but I had to show him, argue with him, plead with him and show him the research where statin drugs were not for him. Now, to this day. He thanks me for being so persistent to his stubbornness. Statin drugs have been pushed on people to lower their cholesterol levels saying it can lower your chances of a heart attack and stroke but no one not even the doctors were telling people what horrible life altering even death in some cases side effects these ‘statin” drugs were having on people. They have been linked to muscle pain, digestive problems, mental fuzziness, liver damage and even death. Do the medications really benefit the person? You must ask yourself. Is it worth the risk? That is your call completely but you can naturally lower your cholesterol if it bothered you with your diet or if it were having an adverse impact on your life… NATURALLY lower it without medication.
You see this friendly heart symbol on unhealthy boxes of cereals, packaged soy milk, edamame, vegetable oils, tofu, High-protein energy bars and snacks or even soy burgers at any given American grocery store. Companies can also take advantage and misuse this heart healthy symbol if they include soy protein on the ingredient list on their highly over processed food aka crap! There is a new trend of soy-based products like the Impossible burger and many more Americans are drinking less cow’s milk and more plant based milks.
Once you begin to read labels then you will start noticing how many companies sneak in soy in the ingredient list.
Brilliant marketing campaigns have lead you to believe that soy products are healthy but in fact it’s completely the opposite.
Soy is cheap to use and it seems to be in everything! For centuries, Asian people have been consuming fermented soy products such as natto, tempeh, fermented soy sauce, and enjoying the health benefits but there is a difference between real, organic, traditionally fermented soy and unfermented soy. Fermented soy does not wreak havoc on your body like unfermented soy products do and unfermented soy is cheap.
The other issue with soy is that most soy today contains something called phytoestrogens, and these phytoestrogens are estrogen mimickers in the body. And so, if you’re a male consuming extra estrogen, it’s going to give you more feminine characteristics.
If you’re a woman consuming foods that increase estrogen levels, it’s going to increase your risk of breast cancer, cervical cancer, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and other hormone imbalance-related disorders.
Many have switched to soy milk because they felt they needed a diary substitute since they couldn’t tolerate dairy. Actually your body was doing you an even bigger favor. Cow milk was made for cow’s not humans. We’ve been lied to again. You don’t need milk from cows to get vitamin d! Vitamin D is added to the cow’s milk. You can naturally get your daily dose of vitamin d from 15 minutes of sunlight each day.
There are some chemicals such as isoflavones, found in soy products like soy milk or edamame, that will halter and intercept your thyroid’s ability to make hormones if you’re not getting enough iodine.
Soybeans are one of the crops that are being genetically modified. Since 1997 GMO soybeans are being used in an increasing number of products.
Dr. Kaayla Daniel, author of The Whole Soy Story, points out thousands of studies linking soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility—even cancer and heart disease. Here is just a sampling of the health effects that have been linked to soy consumption:
Breast cancer
Brain damage
Infant abnormalities
Thyroid disorders
Kidney stones
Immune system impairment
Severe, potentially fatal food allergies
Impaired fertility
Danger during pregnancy and nursing
My final thoughts on Soy are: Soy is terrible – avoid it like the black plague. It contains trypsin inhibitors, is a source of xenoestrogens, even if it’s organic, it comes with a lot of glyphosate and other pesticide residues and will mimic estrogen in your body plus cause inflammation, contributes to leaky gut syndrome and most likely have been genetically modified (GMO).
Personally, I find coconut aminos are a healthier alternative.
Food is thy medicine, right? Actually, it can work one of two ways. Food can be thy medicine or food can be thy death. This book is a guide that will inform you from the perspective of a women. You will also be able to determine what areas in your life that may need a little bit of work and the skills needed to improve those issues along with some fabulous recipes to help get you started on how to eat KETO AIP. I will also help you understand how to fix your gut, strengthen your immunity and fight inflammation with an autoimmune approach. The Keto AIP removes all the common inflammatory food triggers that stimulate a possible autoimmune reaction in the body. We’re going to start resetting those adrenals, boosting that energy and doing a little booty kicking to those hormones that have decided to act like a wild college student and pull an all-nighter the day before final exams.
Just like you, my story is unique. For so many wasted years, I was a shamed of my struggles, particularly with my body image and embarrassed about my mental health. I couldn’t seem to manage my anxiety nor my OCD. I found myself unsure by my imperfect journey and it seemed for many years that I actually lost myself on this stretch of road that I’ve been traveling on. I didn’t like what I seen in the mirror, all the mistakes I’ve made, my flaws, my inability to control the chaos in my head and most importantly the struggles with my weight. I’ve learned that the mistakes where lessons to get me to where I am today and I couldn’t become who I needed to be if I didn’t travel that uncertain road. I had to stop being concerned with what was behind me! It was behind me for a reason. I’m actually a better person because of it. I dusted myself off and keep going. I started to understand that everything that glitters isn’t gold. I couldn’t be fooled by those SHINY OBJECTS. People that you meet don’t always let you know about their failures. Nine times out of ten they only allow you to see what they want you to see and for you to believe their always winning. I had to learn to stay in my lane and I knew that I would arrive. Anything that I had missed along the journey wasn’t meant for me. I looked myself in the mirror and told myself that: Someone wants what I have!
That MY gift that I am sitting on isn’t mine to keep. I needed to,” Write that book”! My gift means the world to someone else. I knew this in my heart. I felt it in my soul and GOD allowed me to feel it in my spirit.
This book gives me an opportunity to bond with YOU, and my community. I am happy you are here. Let me say it again, I am happy that you are here. I’ve read countless times where people are asking me about losing large amount of hair in their shower, severe dry skin, unable to lose weight and although they might have bought the products from whole foods, it’s just not working! So, it’s my JOY to turn your issue into a solution that is written in this book. Sometimes in life we just need clarity. You have to step out of your comfort zone and focus on where your path is headed. You were born with the capacity of abundance. You need to clear away any of the emotional, mental and energetic debris that is in the way of your ability to see who you really are in order to create the life you really deserve.

When I first looked at this photo, all I saw was another over weight person. I wanted to hide from the entire world. You can’t see the emotional trauma that I have endured from my hypothyroidism or the fight that I deal with daily.
You can’t see my struggles, my family history, my up bringing , if I was lucky enough to have one or both parents willingly active in my life nor can you put yourself in my shoes.
But you know what’s extremely exhausting?
Looking at a photo of another person and wishing you had their life. Frankly, just trying to be someone you’re NOT.
And you know what’s even MORE exhausting?
Judging myself .
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight, to dress nice, to have a better job or a better relationship with a supportive partner.
There is nothing wrong with wanting MORE.
And if you’re not comfortable in your body which I was not then it’s perfectly fine to want to change that.
But hating yourself for where you are currently isn’t and that battle needs to start within.
Realizing in this very moment what I’ve just done.
Which was based solely on where I have been , not where I am going.
As, I look at this photo again. I see, more.

My name is A.L. Childers, and I am an internationally recognized published author, blogger and a wellness health coach. I also dabble in freelance journalism and I have over a decade of experience in research and editorial writing. This journey that I’ve traveled on has led me to become a healer and more spiritually-enlightened. I wholeheartedly take a holistic approach to my body, mind and soul. I believe what you put out into the world, it comes back to you good or bad and we make our very own health more complicated than it should be. People have gotten lost in the basic function of how their bodies work. Our cells are cities within themselves and each have their own designed function along with being their very own conscious entities. As humans, we are each on a unique path to find that inner peace. Everything in life is a modest complication of many truths.
I’m was allergic to myself, in theory. Being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and later Hashimoto’s hasn’t been any walk in the park. My entire body is at the mercy of my thyroid. My body immune system is attacking my thyroid gland – as if it was foreign tissue and my immune systems ultimate goal is to eventually, completely destroy my thyroid gland.
After being diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 25 years ago. I knew there was something more than just being labeled with a medical condition and taking a daily pill. There wasn’t a lot of information on how to heal myself and I wasn’t okay with this. I was so hungry trying to find the answer where I could be able to feel real again and I became extremely desperate to get my life back after years of living with a chronic health condition.
My doctor did exactly as he was trained to do. He evaluated me with what I presented him, asked me a few questions in return, listened to my basic body functions and gave a solution to best heal the issue at hand but I needed more. I needed him to become a medical detective to look at all the clues that I presented him and for him to investigate through blood work, my medical history, my lifestyle, my food intolerances, my environment and my vitamin deficiencies. I really can’t be upset nor blame my doctor that the root of my health issues weren’t being addressed. He was doing exactly as he had been trained to do in his 12 plus years of medical schooling plus along with his hands on clinical experience and that was to treat the symptoms that I placed in front of him.
Doctors need to rethink how they approach treating our thyroid issues by:
Analyzing a patient’s medical history and recognizing if there is a problem, performing the correct tests, properly diagnosing and treating the causes of thyroid dysfunction, educating the patient by stressing the need for a lifestyle change, a hypothyroidism style healing diet, vitamin deficiencies, food allergens and adding supplements that they aren’t getting from the foods they are consuming. Also, prescribing the right thyroid hormone replacement and dosages specifically designed for that individual person. We are all unique. You see we each have a story and its completely different from the next person.
I learned that my doctor didn’t have a whole lot of training on nutrition nor the medications they were prescribing either.
Also, what “real” clinical trials the medications went though, the adverse reactions and how they evaluated the effectiveness to the human body. I also learned that most medications were designed to only treat the symptoms not to cure the issues at hand. My best bet was to learn nutrition, learn how my body works, teach myself about herbal medicine from the earth & other forms of natural medicine.
After being diagnosed, I started to read everything that was put out there, anything that would lead me to a topic about hypothyroidism. I would research that topic- if there were text books related to that topic- I would order them and based on reading that book it would lead to me to another book or another article or another research paper. What I have learned was really shocking. There has been information out here for all of us to see. Your body simply can’t heal itself when its full of inflammation, parasites, toxic chemicals, fake foods, heavy metals, pharmaceutical poisons and refined sugars. These things are meant to destroy your health not better it.
The science is out there everywhere people are just choosing not to look at it or many who were like I was simply don’t know they do have a choice.
You do have a choice.
I felt as if I had lost control over my body and my mental health as well. It seems that I had experienced every symptom from lack of energy, anxiety, weight gain, scary heart palpitations, brain fog and this was just to name a few. I couldn’t sleep and where the hell had my eye brows gone? My hair was falling out and the regrowth was thin. I was always constipated, my blood pressure started to increase, my fingertips would get cold and numb just out of the blue, my emotions were all over the place as if I was on an emotional roller coaster. I had aches and pains that it seemed hard to explain to my doctor and my doctor thought it was all in my head. Have you ever had a new car and you just made your very last car payment or the 36-month warranty had just expired and it seems things are starting to breakdown. The excitement of that last payment but yet the disappointed of no warranty left. I felt as if I was beginning to slowly die.
There is a major disconnect between what we believe to be healthy foods and what research tells us is healthy. In fact, many of the health foods today that people go out of their way to eat daily are extremely thyroid suppressive and hopelessly inadequate. I started to become my very own health investigator. I started researching what I need to do to start addressing what the root cause is because that lead to me to this point in my life. I certainly wouldn’t take Motrin if I got a pebble stuck in my shoe? So, why am I going to take this new medication for my thyroid if I didn’t understand how I got here?
As I began researching, I soon discovered that hypothyroidism does has a root issue. I often ignored all the underlying causes of my hypothyroidism. What was I looking for? Like an onion, I needed to see it layer by layer. I started to do a little pruning of my branches, I wanted to be healthy again. My thyroid was being influenced by so many different things.
There isn’t a one-size-fits all to hypothyroidism.
My new purpose is to empower people to embrace who they are, to add value to their life, to inspire them and to connect with those who are struggling with hypothyroidism. I want you to learn the true meaning of being healthy and HELP give you the resources to where YOU become successful in your healing journey. You have to start to focus on healing your body naturally from the inside out.

There are many things in your life moving forward that need to be changed where you can begin to heal. Cleaning up your endocrine disruptors is only one part of the puzzle.
#4 Let’s identify and address those sneaky thyroid disruptors
Endocrine disruptors are tricky chemicals that play havoc on our bodies. They increase production of certain hormones; decrease productions of others; intimation hormones; turning one hormone into another; interfering with hormones signaling; tells cells to die prematurely; competing with essential nutrients; binding to essential hormones and accumulating in the organs that produce hormones.
Our bodies are completely bombarded and overwhelmed with the constant exposed to toxic chemicals through the air that we breathe, the water we drink, the foods we eat, the personal care products and cleaning products we use.
Every Cell in your body responds to the foods you eat, the products you put on your body to the house hold chemicals that you purchase for your home. All of these things have a direct impact on your hormones and in return your hormones have a direct impact on every major system in your body. Not to mention that our body is lacking certain nutrients that heavily influence the function of every cell in our body.
Your body is an awesome design but there is a complex balance between everything. It’s like a domino. One thing in your body that is overworked can cause a major shift in how things operate. Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. Again, there are not one size fits all nor any magical pill to swallow when it comes to healing your hypothyroidism.
As we have all found out when your thyroid isn’t working properly it can wreak havoc on your life. Your thyroid is responsible for so many things from regulating your metabolism, making energy, adjusting your mood, helping you sleep, it even helps aid in good digestion but you see this is where you must come into play.
Like everything else in life you get back what you give.
For example, imagine a car. Its parts are specialized and they each perform specific tasks, but yet they all depend on each other. The human body is the same way. When one thing is being over worked or needs repair it puts a strain on the rest where they can’t perform their specific tasks as designed.
Did you know that it takes 26 seconds for the chemicals to enter into your bloodstream? Most commercial personal care products are full of endocrine disrupting chemicals that wreak havoc on our hormones. On average women use 9 personal care and cosmetic products per day and this can add up to a mixture up its about 126 different hormone disrupting chemicals and add this to the toxins you’re exposed to each day when you got out into the world. Over 1000 of these ingredients have already been banned in Europe but not here in the United States where our FDA has only banned 11 of those ingredients in our personal care products.
These chemicals in our body products, our food, our beverages, the vaccines and the pharmaceuticals create a breeding ground for sickness. Have you heard of gene mutation? It’s when the cells are changed by chemicals they are either damaged, lost or copied. These processed foods that are full of man-made chemicals, fluoridated municipal tap water, genetically modified foods, refined oils, herbicides like roundup, Artificial sweeteners, Vaccines and the yearly flu shot – often contain mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde and MSG. Pharmaceutical medications and a lot of the Pharmaceutical medications are loaded with fluoride, OTC (over-the-counter) medications for colds, allergies, headaches, anesthetics, anti-anxiety medications, antidepressants, antifungals, cholesterol-lowering medications, chemotherapy, appetite suppressants, arthritis medications, steroids – often contain heavy metal toxins, artificial sweeteners and toxic industrial-based food dyes. Let’s not forget to mention the over use of antibiotics, antacids, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) which completely change the environment in our gut.
So may products in the environment are laced with chemicals that are known to be endocrine disrupting, which means that they can block or mimic the natural hormones. Here is a list of endocrine disrupting things in your life that you can take control of and change.

How to fight those Hormones that control your weight?
Research shows there are 9 hormones that strongly influence your appetite and weight. They are Insulin, Leptin, Ghrelin, Cortisol, Estrogen, Neuropeptide Y (NPY), Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1), Cholecystokinin (CCK) and Peptide YY (PYY).
Welcome to the hormonal party event of your life. Having these powerful chemical messengers in your body work together can increase or decrease your appetite, control your blood sugar, insulin balance, metabolism and decide wither you are burning fat or storing fat. These disrupted hormones make it easy for us to gain weight and begins to store the fat.
When your hormones are in balance you feel amazing but when they’re out of balance, you feel exhausted, out of control, and your metabolism is tanked.
How do we get these hormones under control?
Certainly your diet and lifestyle has a powerful effect on these hormones. There is no secret combination but change. Your body simply can’t heal itself when its full of inflammation, parasites, toxic chemicals, fake foods, heavy metals, pharmaceutical poisons and refined sugars. These things are meant to destroy your health not better it. If you are struggling with obesity or even if you can’t seem to lose that muffin top understand this. You have a hormonal disorder and you may be full of inflammation.
Unless you are taking some sort of prescription medication and this is a side effect from it. (WEIGHT GAIN!) Please if you are taking any sort of medications please do some research on it and see exactly what the side effects are from it. Learn what you are putting in your body.
I have no way of knowing exactly which hormone you have is out of whack but if you start to do the things that I am going to suggest and have suggested so far in this book. Change will be seen and change will happen.
Don’t worry. I will show you what foods you should be eating more of and what you should be avoiding later in the book but if you are allergic to these foods all bets are off. The most important thing is for you to follow a meal plan that is tailored to your personal taste that also includes the foods that will help you achieve goals that won’t spike your blood glucose, assist you in weight management, fight inflammation, heal your gut, heal your thyroid and fix those out of whack hormones. This is why the testing that I suggest in the beginning of the book is so important. I do understand not everyone has access to good doctors nor do they even have medical insurance.

Fact: Every Cell in your body responds to your thyroid hormones. These hormones have a direct impact on every major system in your body.
Your health is a consequence of actions taken. It is a combination of sequences that you allowed to take place to get you to this point in your life. There is this big lie that we all got stuck in. Listen to me when I say there’s a major disconnect between what YOU believe to be healthy foods and what research tells us is healthy.
As our health goes, you would think that it would be a cinch to diagnose and pretty straightforward to treat. Each of us are unique individuals with different sensitivities. None of us has the same exact routine as far as what foods we eat, what chemicals we are exposed to and what medications we take but yet we all are similar when it comes to the routine protocols that we are given when we come down with an illness, disorder or disease.
Environmental chemicals and toxins, pesticides, BPA, thyroid endocrine disruptors, iodine imbalance, other medications, fluoride, overuse of soy products, cigarette smoking, and gluten intolerance. All of these play a very important role in your health.
As consumers we put our trust in the research and development of scientific studies, The FDA and The CDC. Drug store chains have quota’s to meet and even some of our Doctors get yearly bonus’s. Little do we do that behind closed doors corporations often pay scientists and these companies to support their product for profit. Some Politicians seem to have a revolving door between the private and public sector. The synthetic chemicals we face everyday that is in our food, our water, and the air that we breathe .
Did you know that products we use every day may contain toxic chemicals and has been linked to women’s health issues?
There are hidden endocrine disruptors and very tricky chemicals that play havoc on our bodies. “We are all routinely exposed to endocrine disruptors, and this has the potential to significantly harm the health of our youth,” said Renee Sharp, EWG’s director of research. “It’s important to do what we can to avoid them, but at the same time we can’t shop our way out of the problem”. We need to have a real chemical policy reform.” The longer the length of ingredients on your food label means how much more unhealthy it is for you to consume. When an item contains a host of ingredients that most likely you cant even pronounce or remember to spell you can bet your lucky dollar that the natural nutrients are long gone. These highly processed frank n foods are very difficult for the body to break down and some of the chemicals will become stored in your body.
Pesticides, herbicides, GMOs in our food, fluoride and chlorine and trace pharmaceutical residue in the water supplies, methane, carbon monoxide and industrial pollutants in the air, and the toxic chemicals in our everyday household products.
No wonder our bodies are completely bombarded and overwhelmed with the constant exposed to toxic chemicals through the air that we breathe, the water we drink, the foods we eat, the personal care products and cleaning products we use.
The foods that we consume, oh, the foods we consume.
Sometimes I want to shake people and say, “Wake Up”! You have the power to make a difference in your life. You’ve always had the power. No one can force you to become more aware of what you put on your body and what you put in your body. What you consume is just as important as what you lather on yourself. Adjusting your life, reading labels and catering to your specific health needs isn’t easy but it will benefit you in the long run. This is one of the smartest decisions that you can make. Not only will you start to look and feel better but think of the medical cost that you could be saving your future self.
Disease DOESN’T just strike at whim. What if I told you that most diseases have an underlying ROOT cause? That YOU aren’t some random number picked by nature to have an Autoimmune Disorder, Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, Cancer, high blood pressure, Diabetes or Alzheimer’s. Would you believe me if I told you that you hold the key to the answer.
The real reality is we are damaging our DNA and we are changing our genetic makeup for future generations. There was a study a few years back that said the umbilical cord of an average American baby has over 200 known chemicals in it. Eighty percent of the common chemicals that are used daily in this country, we know almost nothing about. Our children are being born toxic and we have no idea if these toxins are already doing some sort of damage their brains, their immune system, their reproductive system, and any other developing organs.
Are we unknowingly setting ourselves up for failure in the womb, even before birth?
Scientists and researchers are concerned that many of these chemicals may be carcinogenic or wreak havoc with our hormones, our body’s regulating system.
Most products have a warning label that is typed in bold “Keep Out of Reach of Children”. As consumers, we believe that if our children don’t ingest these products they will not be harmed by them. This can be far from the truth. Think about other common methods of exposure are through the skin and our respiratory tract. WE are along with our children are often in contact with the chemical residues housecleaning products do leave behind, by crawling, lying and sitting on the freshly cleaned floor.
Scientists at Norway’s University of Bergen tracked 6,000 people, with an average age of 34 at the time of enrollment in the study, who used the cleaning products over a period of two decades, according to the research published in the American Thoracic Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
We are creating a toxic shit storm within our very own bodies. The real reality is we are damaging our DNA and we are changing our genetic makeup for future generations. These chemicals in our body products, our food, our beverages, the vaccines and the pharmaceuticals create a breeding ground for sickness.
Have you heard of gene mutation? It’s when the cells are changed by chemicals they are either damaged, lost or copied. These processed foods that are full of man-made chemicals, fluoridated municipal tap water, genetically modified foods, refined oils, herbicides like roundup, Artificial sweeteners, Vaccines and the yearly flu shot – often contain mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde and MSG, Pharmaceutical medications and a lot of the Pharmaceutical medications are loaded with fluoride, OTC (over-the-counter) medications for colds, allergies, headaches and fever – often contain heavy metal toxins, artificial sweeteners and toxic industrial-based food dyes. Let’s not forget to mention the over use of antibiotics, antacids, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) which completely change the environment in our gut.
It’s not enough to be aware of all the outdoor chemicals that we are exposed to everyday but inside our homes we can have more power and control. We have to be more aware about using chemical cleaners, paints, glues, body lotions, toothpastes, underarm deodorants, hair products and pesticides. Instead start to begin to use products that don’t pollute our very own bodies. We must do our own research, make our own products or be a smarter shopper and start reading labels. I can’t stress this enough. We must take a stand for our health. Stop using commercial products that are laced with unknown and harmful body damaging ingredients.
Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. A number of things can be the reason why you have hormonal imbalances, food intolerances, thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, personality changes, leaky gut, depression, an autoimmune disorder, chronic pain, no metabolism and low sex drive, bloating, anxiety, menstrual problems and infertility. It starts with becoming aware and how your health can be influenced by all these different circumstances.
The bread your buying at the store really isn’t real bread your buying. The white bread in the grocery is not the bread that our ancestors use to eat. 65% of the foods we eat are made from grains that are grown in a field such as grain bread, whiskey pasta and beer just to name a few. Wheat is made up of 3 parts the bran, the germ and the starchy endosperm.
The way the grain is processed has a huge impact not only on the way it taste and how healthy it is for you. Our ancestors used every part of the grain when they made their bread. White bread on the store shelves is made by a industrial process that strips out the wheat into all purpose flour and in most cases if you read the back of the labels you will see chemicals additives added. These chemical additives is what gives white bread a longer shelve life. White bread is also only made from the starchy endosperm which your body turns into pure sugar.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60 percent of herbicides, 90 percent of fungicides, and 30 percent of insecticides to be carcinogenic, and most are damaging to your nervous system as well. In fact, these powerful and dangerous chemicals have been linked to numerous health problems such as:
Neurotoxicity and Parkinson’s disease
Disruption of your endocrine system
Carcinogenicity
Immune system suppression
Miscarriages, male infertility and reduced reproductive function
This information should make you rethink when you are considering whether to buy local, organic vegetables or not.
Our bodies have no way of adapting to these GMO and food like substances that we’ve been consuming. Every cell in your body is wrapped in a membrane of half fat and half protein. If you are constantly feeding these cells unnatural fatty acids, that membrane cannot function like it is designed to do and disease starts at the cellular level.
Dr. Luise Light is a nutrition expert and led the team at the Department of Agriculture that made the original recommendations for the food pyramid. If you review her original recommendations, they sound similar to dietary advice given by nutritionists today: lots of vegetables, more lean sources of protein like fish and nuts, and less dairy and processed foods.
Those guidelines, according to Dr. Light, did not survive their trip to the office of the Head of the Department of Agriculture. She has described herself as “shocked” by the changes that were made. Her team placed fruits and vegetables at the base of the pyramid and whole-grain breads and cereals further up. The new guidelines not only switched carbohydrates to the base of the pyramid, they moved processed foods like crackers and corn flakes, which Dr. Light and her team had placed at the top of the pyramid with chocolate, to the base too. Even with all the edits, the food pyramid was not released for another 12 years.
The American government has massive influence over our diet. Federal policy shapes our farm system to a astonishing level and this also is the reason why our unhealthy school lunch menu remains for millions of schoolchildren.
“Good advice about nutrition conflicts with the interests of many big industries,” Michael Jacobson, co-founder of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, has said, “each of which has more lobbying power than all the public-interest groups combined.” But the real problem is that manufacturers of unhealthy food are so powerful that those interests groups are always the pushing snack foods rather than fruit.
There’s a lot of money to be made selling obesity foods, and you can’t move America in a healthier direction without confronting the salty, sugary, finger-licking, just-one-more-chip financial firepower of the food industrial complex.
If you take the current food pyramid and turn it upside-down that is what our food pyramid should look like.
Looking at the bigger picture. Follow the money. It’s a revolving door. This is bigger than any of us can imagine. It’s more than just being lied to about our food pyramid. This revolving door certainly enables certain private vested interests to have a strong influence, way beyond that of us ordinary citizens, on how the government works, and that the country is still increasingly being run by a cozy group of insiders with ties to both government and industry. Most people keep a blind eye to it and actually its safer to not fight this fight or suggest anything alone these lines if you want to stay alive. This has been termed crony capitalism. People have been killed for lesser whistle blower statements.

You have to start addressing what the root cause is of your health issues. Would you take Motrin if you got a rock stuck in your shoe? Your health issue has a root cause. We often ignore the underlying cause of health illnesses. Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. A number of things can be the reason why you are going through what you are going through with your health. It could be a wide range of things from celiac disease, Hashimoto’s, leaky gut, autoimmune disease disorder, nutrient deficiency’s, adrenal fatigue, exposure to chemicals, gluten or other food allergies, and hormonal imbalance. It starts with the foods we eat to the chemicals in the environment, your body can be influenced by many different circumstances.
Most of your “conditions” and labels are a lack of the proper nutrition and/or vitamins and minerals. Why not do a little research and find what is causing your disorder? Look up what nutritional steps you need to start taking. What environmental things have an effect on your disorder and start avoiding that. Why not give you body a fighting chance to heal the issue at hand with herbs, specific vitamins & other natural supplements. In each stage of our lives our bodies change and we must learn to adapt and adjust what it needs. Trust me when I say, there certainly isn’t a substitute for figuring out the real underlying reason for your “condition”. I am not saying try this solely on your on I would recommend that you get qualified holistic health practitioner or a Naturopath Doctor in your area that will be able to order the appropriate tests for you, and also help you interpret them. Looking at the big picture. Like an onion, You must start to work on each layer and see what needs to be addressed, peeling it back, layer by layer.
I want to arm you with tools that you need to help you start managing your condition.
You have the power to make a difference in your life. You’ve always had the power. No one can force you to become more aware of what you put on your body and what you put in your body.

This is a time when friends and families gather near and far to get in some much-needed quality time
Many times when the holidays roll around we try to do too much, too fast and it certainly comes back to bite us in the butt. Having a chronic illness already gives us day to day challenges. Instead of jumping in with both feet blazing why not follow a few of these simple tricks to make your life easier.
1.Keeping your stress to a minimal is the key.
Stop expecting so much from yourself. Adjust your expectations and become more realistic of what your current abilities are. It’s not a downfall. It’s life and how it is for you. Don’t look at it like you’re less of a person. Everyone has their own issues and they might be better at hiding them than you. If you only have the energy for a few hours of activity, don’t push yourself, take your time and accomplish those activities as you can. You have to realize what is worth devoting your time and energy to, and try to stay clear of those things that don’t make the list.
Just completely Let Go of Perfection-
Moments, things and areas of your life don’t need to be perfect to be marvelous.
We are all human and we should give ourselves a break.
You don’t have to attend every holiday party. If you are tired from working all week or just tired in general. Give yourself a time out. You can’t give your best if you are not feeling your best.
Stop beating yourself up over not being able to do everything- Make list of what is most important and do that. Your home doesn’t have to look like a Kardashian or Martha Stuart remember they have people helping them decorate if not doing the decorating for them. If all you can do is put up a tree, then just put up a tree and be happy.
Take smaller steps to what you want to achieve- it’s easier to make a goal with small accomplishable tasks and this way you can see the things you have done and be joyful.
This year, focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t. Look for solutions instead of repeatedly dwelling on the issues and stumbling blocks.
Besides I’m over being to be perfect because frankly it’s exhausting.
Of course, you want your house to be fully decorated with a holiday village, outside decorations, and other things but if you only have energy for a tree then only put up that tree.
We seem to forget what really makes the holidays memorable isn’t an impeccably decorated home. It’s spending time with each other, talking and laughing, and sharing wonderfully delicious foods. I prefer to not be curled on the couch in exhaustion and pain the day after and just focus on what’s really important. With these simple tricks from my book, Hypothyroidism Holiday RECIPE Guidebook: Surviving the Season,
2 Always Stay Hydrated-
Clean, filtered water helps to cleanse your body — inside and out. Your kidneys need the water to filter waste from the blood and excrete it into your urine. Your bowls need it to help keep things flowing or you can become constipated.
It also Boosts Brainpower- According to a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, drinking water when you feel thirsty can help you think and act.
It Helps with Appetite Control and Gut Health- although you might not lose a ton of weight, drinking filtered water instead of drinking empty calorie sodas will certainly make a difference on the scales.
Staying hydrated Improves your mood- Lack of sleep isn’t the only thing that can cause headaches, irritability and fatigue. Studies suggest that increasing your daily amount of water intake can reduce the duration and intensity of headaches.
Remember: You should drink small amounts of water slowly over time. Never ever chug a ton of water there is something called water toxicity and people have died from it. How do you know you’re getting enough water? Take your body weight and divide it by 2. This is how many ounces a day your body needs. For example, if you weigh 160 lbs. divide that by 2 and you need 80 ounces of water per day for your body weight.
3. Sip Smartly-
Always try to keep both your calories and your buzz under control. Try to go for simply made and clear drinks for instance a single shot of vodka, gin, or rum mixed with club and a squeeze of lime will set you back only about 100 calories. Champagne is another great options. Not only is it low on the calorie chart—around 80 to 120 per glass—but champagne is more likely to be sipped rather than guzzled. Another rule of thumb is 1 alcoholic drink by following the next drink to be a glass of water. This way you stay hydrated and you are not consuming all alcoholic drinks.

Bacon-Wrapped Butternut Squash
2 lbs. butternut squash, cut into cubes
15 slices of nitrate free, uncured bacon, cut in half
1 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. garlic powder

Bake for 20 minutes in a 350 degree oven. After the 20 minutes flip the bites over and bake for another 20 minutes. If you like crunchier bacon turn on your broiler for 2 to 3 minutes, be careful not to burn.
In a cast iron skillet add the coconut oil over low-medium heat and place the plum halves skin side up and fry for 4-5 minutes or until the plums are tender. Divide the plums onto two serving plates with macadamia nuts on top and caramelized balsamic vinegar drizzled around the plums.
