How to get out of survival mode Tip #2

Having the proper tests performed:

I understand not everyone has health insurance nor can everyone manage the extra cost that it may take to see a knowledgeable holistic health practitioner or one might not even be in your area locally.  Therefore, the information within the pages of this book can help guide you. Don’t worry you did not purchase another “quick fit it “book nor a book that is suggesting you buy “certain” products.

Roll your sleeves up, Sweet Cheeks, because you’ve got some work to do.

In order to start fighting hypothyroidism head on you need to know what you’re working with when it comes to your body. Where it is lacking, what are its strengths and the steps you need to take to begin the healing process.

This is just a basic run down of tests that need to be performed. If you “ARE” working with a Skilled Knowledgeable Holistic Health Practitioner they will know exactly what tests to run to begin figuring out what if any health issues you may have, how to treat it and where to start you on the road to wellness.  Again, if you aren’t working with one then this book will help to certainly guide you but you have to do the work.

You see it is very important to know if your body is lacking because for example if your iron, ferritin, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 are too low, your body may have trouble with absorbing and utilizing the thyroid hormone replacement pill that you may be taking daily. At the present moment I am no longer on any medications for my thyroid because I have healed my Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism naturally. I have learned how to read my blood work, pay attention to the signals that my body gives me and most importantly LISTEN to my body. From all of this I can adjust what I need to fine-tune myself. There are also other daily habits and techniques that I have developed over time and learned that are written within the pages of this book for you to discover and become enlightened.

I know, the reason why you purchased this book is because you have the courage, strength and desire to start making a difference in your own health. Thank you for making that leap for bettering your health.

What tests should I have run for my thyroid?

A full thyroid panel for hypothyroidism should at least include these key thyroid lab tests:

-TSH

-Free T4

-Free T3

-Reverse T3

-Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies-Hashimoto’s

-Thyroglobulin Antibodies- Hashimoto’s

-TSI & TRAb for Graves; You can have antibodies for both illnesses

A Thyroid DNA Panel that includes DIO2

Listen TSH alone does not give a full picture of thyroid health.

Normal Ranges for you blood work

-TSH- (range .034 – 4.82)

-Free- T4 (range 0.59 – 1.17)

-Total -T4 (range 4.5 – 12.0)

-Total- T3 (range 71 – 180)

These are additional tests that your doctor may want to run. These other tests may be vital to predetermining how to start your healing process. I shall repeat again that you are not sitting in front of me with the history of your health chart, nor do I have a recent rundown of your blood work or can I ask you many, many other vital important questions. For example: your medical history, your recent and past blood work, your daily activities, your food journal, your daily stress factors, your exercise habits, your sleep patterns or what chemical toxins that you allow in your life. (example: shampoo’s, lotions, deodorants, cleaning supplies, other medications, etc.) There are so many other vital questions too that I would ask you to help you begin your healing journey if you were working with me or a knowledgeable holistic health practitioner.

2.- Four iron labs: Ferritin, % Saturation, TIBC and serum iron (sometimes the test will just say Iron, or total iron).

*A high ferritin can also point to inflammation and is often elevated with people who have hypothyroidism. It is suggested that you should not take your iron supplement for up to five days because this will give you a clearer picture of what your body is holding onto but again I would advise you to get your doctors approval beforehand.

Lower than normal hemoglobin levels indicate anemia. The normal hemoglobin range is generally defined as 13.5 to 17.5 grams (g) of hemoglobin per deciliter (dL) of blood for men and 12.0 to 15.5 g/dL for women. The normal ranges for children vary depending on the child’s age and sex. Ferritin.

3.-A full vitamin and mineral MOT

Believe it or not something a simple a mineral or vitamin deficiency can have a major impact on your life.

Nutrient deficiencies are a very common and often over looked. Your thyroid is dependent upon many different vitamins and minerals that work together for it to properly function. Maintaining adequate levels of protein, vitamin D, vitamin A, thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), cobalamin (B12), iodine, selenium, iron, zinc, Omega-3 fats, vitamin C, and magnesium are all important nutrients when it comes to helping your thyroid work properly or it can initiate thyroid dysfunction.

*The body also depends heavily on micronutrients like calcium, vitamin B12, magnesium, Vitamin D, potassium and omega 3s.

I promise you the answer to this test is well worth knowing.

When your body has the correct normal levels of vitamins and minerals your metabolism will also work like it should.

Below are two examples of a very important vitamin and a very important mineral.

According to a November 2017 study conducted at the University of Birmingham in the U.K., maintaining sufficient vitamin D intake may help prevent or delay the onset of inflammatory health conditions.

Vitamin D3 (25-hydroxyvitamin D lab test)

Vitamin D (25 (OH)D) is usually measured on a scale of 30” 100 ng/ml. Below 30 is often considered deficient.

Vitamin D is important to the immune system and without adequate amount of vitamin d it blocks the receptors that tell your thyroid to process properly.

Vitamin D deficiency has been found to be more common among people with Hashimoto’s, [an autoimmune disorder related to hypothyroidism]

*Low vitamin D also increases TSH levels, people who were deficient in vitamin D were much more likely to have TPO-Ab positive tests, [which is related to having Hashimoto’s- an autoimmune disorder related to hypothyroidism].

Extremely fatigued? Selenium. This trace mineral, although rare, has been linked to impaired immune function, recurrent miscarriages, hypothyroidism and extreme fatigue.

Magnesium is necessary for metabolizing estrogen in the liver. Magnesium is a mineral that plays an important part in our health and well-being. It’s one of the forgotten minerals and it’s vital for many processes within the body. Magnesium helps to keep the nervous system healthy and to calm your nerves when you are stressed. In fact, did you know that magnesium is the first mineral depleted when you are stressed? So if you have any type of stress in your life magnesium is the first mineral that goes out the window. Magnesium is also an important mineral co-factor for enzymes that have biochemical reactions in the body. In other words, it plays a large role in digestive system health as it helps enzymes do their job as well as to loosen the body to relax and ease to support the metabolic processes.

Many of us are deficient in magnesium and we don’t even know it. Magnesium is the second most abundant element in our cells, helps to regulate our bodies 325 enzymes, and plays an important role in organizing many bodily functions, like muscle control, electrical impulses, energy production, and the elimination of harmful toxins. According to the National Academy of Sciences, American’s magnesium deficiency helps to account for high rates of heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, arthritis and joint pain, digestive maladies, stress-related illnesses, chronic fatigue and a number of other ailments. Epsom salt is rich in magnesium and sulfate in which are easily absorbed through the skin. Per http://www.uhichicago.com Sulfates help to form brain tissue, joint proteins and the proteins that line the walls of the digestive tract. Sulfates also help detoxify the body of medicines and environmental contaminants. The Epsom Salt Industry Council has listed many reasons why we should take an Epsom bath three times a week. Here are some other health benefits and different recipes for a relaxing, unwinding, and “wash the day off” detox bath. Be creative; find the scents that you like and mix your very special detox bath blends. Improves heart and circulatory health, reducing irregular heartbeats, preventing hardening of the arteries, reducing blood clots and lowering your blood pressure. Improves ability for the body to use insulin, reducing the incidence or severity of diabetes. Flushes toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain, and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances. Improves nerve function by electrolyte regulation. Also, calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood. Relieves stress. Reduces inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps. Improves oxygen use. Improves absorption of nutrients. Prevents or eases of migraine headaches.

Calming Magnesium Body Butter

My homemade magnesium body butter will help replace the magnesium that our bodies need to thrive to survive.  I always try to apply a little to my feet and shoulders before bed. This helps me relax and also get a fantastic night’s sleep.  It’s pretty easy to make and the benefits are overwhelming. Magnesium deficiency is very common and it mimics other common symptoms and many other conditions like, being tired and felling run down, not sleeping well, getting headaches, gut issues, and even feeling stressed and anxious. Here is a list of things that can lower our magnesium levels:

    Too much caffeine

    Processed food and Sugar

    Too much stress

    Poor sleep habits

Calming Magnesium Body Butter

    1/2 cup cocoa butter

1/2 cup of coconut oil and melt

    1/4 cup magnesium oil

Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil

Add 10 drops cedar wood essential oil

Add 10 drops frankincense essential oil

Place a heat-safe glass measuring cup/bowl inside a pot that has 1-2 inches of simmering water over medium heat. Add the cocoa butter and melt it in your double boiler until it’s completely melted.

Remove the cocoa butter from heat, and add 1/2 cup extra virgin coconut oil to the melted cocoa butter and stir until completely the coconut oil has melted. Next add 1/4 cup magnesium oil to the mixture and combine. Place the mixture in the refrigerator to cool for about 30-60 minutes (until it is cooled completely). After the mixture has completely cooled and became a solid. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip it.  Start on low and increase speed slowly.  Whip for about 3-5 minutes. Next add the 10 drops each of lavender essential oil, the 10 drops of cedar wood essential oil, and the 10 drops of frankincense essential oil.  Scrape down the sides of the bowl and continue whipping for another 5 minutes or so, until the magnesium body butter is light and fluffy.  The color of the magnesium body butter will change from yellow to a pale ivory and almost white color. Lastly put the magnesium body butter into mason jars and seal tightly with a lid. Make sure to label and date the top of the lid. This recipe makes enough for two 4 oz. glass jars.

What is the slim and sassy essential oil blend? It’s a blend of grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger, and cinnamon. This metabolic blend can be used for weight loss, increased energy, increased metabolism, appetite suppression, and fighting those nasty, overwhelming cravings. You can purchase this essential oil pretty much anywhere or go to my blog website http://atomic-temporary-94316140.wpcomstaging.com/ and follow me on twitter @thyroidismchick.

What to do if I have a mineral or vitamin deficiency?

First of all, let me say that I support you changing your food patterns and getting what your body is lacking through the consumption of whole organic foods if at all possible. I am in no way trying to “sell” you any vitamin supplements or as I like to call some vitamins, “expensive urine” but if for some reason, if you can’t get what you need through organic whole foods then I want you to be smart about what you are swallowing and not wasting your money on what will ultimately turn into “expensive urine”.

This is really a difficult topic to cover because we are all ‘again” not created the same.

In order to get the correct daily dosage is not like as simple as putting gas in your tank. You just simply can’t swallow a pill and call it a day. A recommendation is just that a recommendation. What you may need from the absorption rates, elimination rates, assessing what the vitamin or mineral even does in your body can mean something totally different to you verses the next person that is given the same recommendation. It seems we may be getting just enough to survive but it’s not unreasonable to get enough to thrive! We must pay attention to our diet and blood work, add extra to what we need and pay major attention to what we are lacking.

For example, if you are low on Vitamin D.

The Reference Daily Intake (RDI) is 600 IU of vitamin D per day from foods and closer to 1,000 IU per day from sunlight.

There are three ways to get vitamin D. 1. The most natural way would be exposing your bare skin to sunlight like your arms, legs and face for 20 minutes (No, you do NOT need sunscreen. I absolutely urge you to look at your sunscreen ingredients and see how harmful the ingredients are actually. There are plenty of natural way to make sunscreen or several companies who make great organic sunscreen. I prefer to just apply raw, unrefined, organic coconut oil) 2. Taking a quality vitamin D3 supplement. 3. Eating foods that are rich in vitamin D such as

Cod liver oil — 1 teaspoon has 453 IU of vitamin D

Wild Alaskan Salmon — 3 ounces has 447 IU

Tuna — 3 ounces has 154 IU

Sardines — 2 fillets have 46 IU

Pasture Raised Eggs — 1 large egg has 41 IU

Mushrooms — 1 cup has 2 IU

(Mushrooms are a nightshade. In this book, I urge you to avoid nightshades but I only showed this as an example of foods that are high in vitamin D. Later in the book, I will go into more detail about the foods that will cater to healing your thyroid along with recipes)

Not all vitamins and mineral supplements are created equal.

This is what I mean when I say. “expensive urine”.

I am sure there are many companies who sell quality vitamins but I’ve found that Garden of Life Multivitamin for Women – Vitamin Code Women’s Raw Whole Food Vitamin Supplement with Probiotics work best for me because a women’s body is very complex. The company promises that this vitamin has no fillers or binders, it’s made from raw whole foods and nothing synthetic (made from fake chemicals acting like the real thing). This multivitamin also has live probiotics and enzymes plus antioxidants. It is also gluten and dairy free which are issues with people with hypothyroidism and food intolerances.

This vitamin hits all areas of my female body.  It’s a comprehensive vitamin for breast health, reproductive health, bone strength, skin health, heart health, and digestive support.

Yes, I may sound as if I am advertising for them but I can assure you I am not and I get no kickbacks if you decide to purchase the same brand that I use. I am only sharing with you what I use and why I use it. How would they even know that you purchased their product because I wrote it in my book? There is no way that this company even knows that am on this planet.

When you are searching for a quality vitamin and mineral supplement to take please make sure it’s not filled with fake crap and has no hidden fillers, binders, gluten, soy lecithin, palm oil, basically read the fine print and make sure there are no hidden added extra things. Also, make sure it has everything your body needs for that extra support that you might not be getting with your food intake. I also like to read the reviews that other people have written about the product that tends to help me make my decision as well.

Whatever your body is lacking you can always google, if you don’t have access to the internet at home, you can freely go to the nearest library and do a little research to see what you need to do the adjustments to whatever you are lacking and begin to build it back up again. There is no reason for you not to have access to the most powerful information tool created in the history of mankind. I am referring to the internet along with search engine tools such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, Internet Archive, Baidu, Ask.com, Yandex.ru and DuckDuckGo.

I also found it beneficial for me to fast before my blood work. I wouldn’t have anything to eat or drink other than water for 8 to 10 hours before my test. Fasting helps ensure that the blood test records an accurate measurement of many things. If I was checking to see if I had a vitamin or mineral deficiency. I also would skip out on taking any mineral/vitamins supplements for several days so my body could be accurately measured to what it is holding on too or what it is truly lacking.

You see my friend, you certainly don’t want your blood work test results could come back flawed, leading to the wrong diagnosis and treatment.

*** Always check with your Primary Care Physician for approval to fast prior to fasting for your blood work***

Here is a little piece that I wrote in my book: Awareness has Magic that I am sharing with you.

The HypothyroidismChick’s Protocol: How I beat Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s using clean Keto principles and Holistic functional Medicine

Navigating Medicare should not be feel like a maze but it can be a complicated and confusing process. The amount of anecdotal information concerning choices for Medicare coverage can be difficult to filter.  I want to help you learn and understand the basic Medicare benefits from the federal government that you are entitled to and have earned as a worker here in the United States. Medicare is complex, and it can often feel overwhelming when you’re learning about Medicare and shopping around for coverage for the first time.  Medicare faces a number of important issues and challenges, perhaps none greater than providing affordable, quality care to an aging population while keeping the program financially secure for future generations. My goal is always the same with everyone or when I am simply writing an article for publication.  I want to provide helpful information about Medicare and protect you from unnecessary spending costs. Those already in Medicare or aging into Medicare should be treated with courtesy, dignity and respect at all times. Of course, I won’t be able to answer all the questions in one simple book with only 25 of the most commonly asked questions.

This book is meant to help you sift through some of the noise to get the information you need.

The best overall quick reference guide to understanding your Medicare options.
In this book, you will learn numerous need-to-know gems. Many people are unaware of the dangers that fall at their feet when they decide to retire. If you are not prepared, you can be penalized tremendously. It is shocking what may lay ahead after you have worked all these years paying your taxes as a good American citizen. Try not to be fooled or dismayed! As a licensed agent, I was absolutely shocked at what may lie ahead for our precious seniors. The snowballing effect of these penalties for Part A, Part B, and Part D can really add up to a lot of money. If you do not figure out a plan, it can consume an entire chunk of your social security benefit payment.

How to get out of survival mode Tip #1

Look into getting a Holistic Health Practitioner:

The very first thing that you need to do is look into getting a knowledgeable certified holistic health practitioner!

You are not sitting in front of me with the history of your health chart, nor do I have a recent rundown of your blood work or can I ask you many, many other vital important questions. This is why I stress for you to look into working with a skilled knowledgeable holistic health practitioner.

The main reason why you should work with a knowledgeable holistic health practitioner is its patient-centered medical holistic healing at its best. Unfortunately, when it comes to your body there isn’t a one size fits all approach to dealing with it and often times you are left still searching for the answers to your symptoms when all you want is your zest for life back. We seriously need to realize that conventional care isn’t getting us what we need nor healing our body.

A knowledgeable health practitioner will care for you as an individual as they won’t look at your body as a whole they will treat each individual body symptom, imbalance and dysfunction. They will take into consideration the whole person, including physical, mental and spiritual aspects, when treating a health condition or promoting wellness.  I want you to understand that you are made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts can be affected.  A knowledgeable health practitioner certainly moves from the confusion of the “one size fits all treatment” approach that we know isn’t working to the one that will cater to what your body needs.  Let’s not forget that each of us is a unique case and unless you get a proper thorough clinical evaluation, trying to figure what medical advise you need online is dubious at best.

When you are searching for a knowledgeable holistic health practitioner– Always read the online reviews and see if you can do a free 1st time meeting!! If you are in any local Facebook groups- ask your fellow Facebook friends who do, they see and why do they like them and have they done a good job at treating their ailments.

Don’t worry by the end of the book you will have a new perspective, understanding of your health and a wealth of information to begin on your new journey.

There is a war raging against humanity and our earth.  We have been passively indoctrinated and so utterly pre-programmed that we do not ask the questions that need to ask. We have laid our trust completely in those in power or someone with a title behind their name. People conditioned blindly believing in things simply because enough people assured us it was true. Infectious diseases have been irradiated but chronic diseases are the new black plague of our modern time. This book is profoundly personal as it represents a mission brimming with meaning.  As I reflect on extraordinary truths about our nation’s health history, current, and future, I also offer you wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. We must stop the atrocities if we want to become a healthier nation in the future. We must stop the atrocities if we want the human race to survive. I hope my voice and advocacy will continue to help lead the way and this book will make changes for current and future generations to come. No, I simply do not have all the answers but I have written plenty in this book to make you start questioning EVERYTHING.

What you are about to discover is terrifying.

I hoped you’ve been enlightened and not frightened by my latest blog — A tale of recovery to save a woman who caught OCD, Hypothyroidism and an Autoimmune Disorder –

Please follow along with me on this journey of discovery as I share with you my brush of madness with exquisite clarity. Luckily, I was never a quick fix-it junkie where I said no to many suggestions from board certified or certifiable doctors because I felt it in my soul that it was merely a banaide being placed on my issues. The names of certain doctors have been changed because frankly, I don’t want to be sued for proven their lack in their field.

Hippocrates was right when he said: Let they food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.

From the Author: New Book: The HypothyroidismChick’s Protocol

From the Author:

This handbook isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s hard work and you have to be willing to give up the things that have made you sick along with a drastic lifestyle change.

My name is A.L. Childers, and I am an internationally recognized published author, blogger and a Holistic Health Coach with many of hours of clinical experience in this field. I also dabble in freelance journalism and I have over a decade of experience in research and editorial writing. This journey that I’ve traveled on has led me to become a healer and more spiritually-enlightened. I wholeheartedly take a holistic approach to my body, mind and soul. I believe what you put out into the world, it comes back to you good or bad and we make our very own health more complicated than it should be. People have gotten lost in the basic function of how their bodies work. Our cells are cities within themselves and each have their own designed function along with being their very own conscious entities. As humans, we are each on a unique path to find that inner peace. Everything in life is a modest complication of many truths.

I’m was allergic to myself, in theory. Being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and later Hashimoto’s hasn’t been any walk in the park. My entire body is at the mercy of my thyroid.  My body’s immune system was attacking my thyroid gland – as if it was foreign tissue and my immune systems ultimate goal is to eventually, completely destroy my thyroid gland.

After being diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 25 years ago. I knew there was something more than just being labeled with a medical condition and taking a daily pill. There wasn’t a lot of information on how to heal myself and I wasn’t okay with this. I was so hungry trying to find the answer where I could be able to feel real again and I became extremely desperate to get my life back after years of living with a chronic health condition.

My doctor did exactly as he was trained to do. He evaluated me with what I presented him, asked me a few questions in return, listened to my basic body functions and gave a solution to best heal the issue at hand but I needed more. I needed him to become a medical detective to look at all the clues that I presented him and for him to investigate through blood work, my medical history, my lifestyle, my food intolerances, my environment and my vitamin deficiencies. I really can’t be upset nor blame my doctor that the root of my health issues weren’t being addressed. He was doing exactly as he had been trained to do in his 12 plus years of medical schooling plus along with his hands on clinical experience and that was to treat the symptoms that I placed in front of him.

Doctors need to rethink how they approach treating our thyroid issues by:

Analyzing a patient’s medical history and recognizing if there is a problem, performing the correct tests, properly diagnosing and treating the causes of thyroid dysfunction, educating the patient by stressing the need for a lifestyle change, a hypothyroidism style healing diet, vitamin deficiencies, food allergens and adding supplements that they aren’t getting from the foods they are consuming. Also, prescribing the right thyroid hormone replacement and dosages specifically designed for that individual person. We are all unique. You see we each have a story and its completely different from the next person.

I learned that my doctor didn’t have a whole lot of training on nutrition nor the medications they were prescribing either.

Also, what “real” clinical trials the medications went though, the adverse reactions and how they evaluated the effectiveness to the human body. I also learned that most medications were designed to only treat the symptoms not to cure the issues at hand. My best bet was to learn nutrition, learn how my body works, teach myself about herbal medicine from the earth & other forms of natural medicine.

After being diagnosed, I started to read everything that was put out there, anything that would lead me to a topic about hypothyroidism. I would research that topic- if there were text books related to that topic- I would order them and based on reading that book it would lead to me to another book or another article or another research paper. What I have learned was really shocking.  There has been information out here for all of us to see.  Your body simply can’t heal itself when its full of inflammation, parasites, toxic chemicals, fake foods, heavy metals, pharmaceutical poisons and refined sugars. These things are meant to destroy your health not better it.

The science is out there everywhere. People are just choosing not to look at it or many who were like I was simply didn’t know they do have a choice.

You do have a choice.

I felt as if I had lost control over my body and my mental health as well. It seems that I had experienced every symptom from lack of energy, anxiety, weight gain, scary heart palpitations, brain fog and this was just to name a few. I couldn’t sleep and where the hell had my eye brows gone? My hair was falling out and the regrowth was thin. I was always constipated, my blood pressure started to increase, my fingertips would get cold and numb just out of the blue, my emotions were all over the place as if I was on an emotional roller coaster. I had aches and pains that it seemed hard to explain to my doctor and my doctor thought it was all in my head. Have you ever had a new car and you just made your very last car payment or the 36-month warranty had just expired and it seems things are starting to breakdown. The excitement of that last payment but yet the disappointed of no warranty left. I felt as if I was beginning to slowly die.

My doctor wanted to give me thyroid medication, antidepressants and pain medication. I was not depressed nor did I need to be placed on pain medication.

The simplest tasks seemed like the hardest on some days. I really didn’t realize or understand the whole life impact of my “new” condition, because as I started investigating, I then began to realize that all the wide ranging symptoms of hypothyroidism that were being brushed off by my doctor at the time as being part of everyday life, stress or getting older was something more dreadfully serious.

After being diagnosed, I was relieved and excited to finally have an answer, some kind of answer, to what was going on with my body but soon I was disappointed again only to find out that the thyroid medications that I thought was going bring me back to myself only fixed a few of my symptoms and I was still having to deal with a dozen more remaining issues. I was so tired of hearing that it was all in my head, give the medication time or let’s try a different strength or brand. I wanted to scream to the world and let everyone know that my quality of life had drastically been affected and there has to be answers. I decided to stand up and fight. Little did I know this was a fight for my life.

Somewhere, Someone, Anyone at this point, hello? Help me, I feel like I am drowning, slowly dying and the world just keeps turning. Why isn’t anyone listening to me?

My body’s check engine light apparently had been on for a while but it took becoming chronically ill to wake me up.

My quality of life has been affected.

Every Cell in my body responds to the foods that I eat, the products that I put on my body to the house hold chemicals that I purchase for my home. All of these things have a direct impact on my hormones and in return my hormones have a direct impact on every major system in my body. Not to mention that my body was lacking certain nutrients that heavily influenced the function of every cell in my body.

I’ve learned in my journey that organic, whole, nutrient rich food is medicine.

I really can’t say it any simpler than that.

These bad fats, sugars, processed salts and added chemicals in our fake overly processed foods were simply entertainment for my brain and unknowingly placed me into an addictive cycle. Food addiction is real and I was addicted to fake foods which were damaging my body.

There is a major disconnection between what we believe to be healthy foods and what research tells us is healthy. In fact, many of the health foods today that people go out of their way to eat daily are extremely thyroid suppressive and hopelessly inadequate. I started to become my very own health investigator. I started researching what I need to do to start addressing what the root cause is because that lead to me to this point in my life. I certainly wouldn’t take Motrin if I got a pebble stuck in my shoe? So, why am I going to take this new medication for my thyroid if I didn’t understand how I got here?

As I began researching, I soon discovered that hypothyroidism does has a root issue. I often ignored all the underlying causes of my hypothyroidism. What was I looking for? Like an onion, I needed to see it layer by layer. I started to do a little pruning of my branches, I wanted to be healthy again. My thyroid was being influenced by so many different things.

There isn’t a one-size-fits all with hypothyroidism or hashimoto’s.

You see, the main problem with hypothyroidism is that it’s a very tricky condition and complicated illness to manage. There are no one size fits all program when you are dealing with hypothyroidism.

Around 27 million Americans and 250 million people worldwide will be affected by low thyroid function or hypothyroidism. One in 8 women will struggle with a thyroid problem in her lifetime, and up to 90% of all thyroid problems are autoimmune in nature, the most common of which is Hashimoto’s. As diseases go, you would think that it would be a cinch to diagnose and pretty straightforward to treat. Many people don’t know that the most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (or autoimmune hypothyroidism), a form of thyroid inflammation caused by our own immune system.  Can you imagine? Our very own immune system has produced antibodies that attack its very own tissues.

The reason why “most doctors” don’t mention this is because it’s quite simple: IT DOESN’T AFFECT THEIR TREATMENT PLAN.   Most doctors run basic blood work and won’t even test for these antibodies. There are occasions where the insurance companies will not pay the extra cost for different tests. Imagine how different our medical system would be if all doctors were required to have an extreme health crisis before practicing medicine too. You know like wearing the show on the other foot? They know how it feels to be in that situation and they don’t want others to suffer along with knowing how to heal the person as a whole.

Most people don’t question their doctors and they think their doctors have their best interest at heart which isn’t always true.   There are some (not all) doctors who are greedy scam artists that take advantage of their patient’s vulnerabilities to make money by prescribing unneeded medications and procedures. I know we need our good, honest and hardworking doctors but in the same breath a patient cured is a customer lost.

(Let me also add: Please don’t ever let anyone make you feel inadequate or intimidated just because they have a title in front of or behind their name. Ask questions, demand answers and follow up with your very own research. You are your very own patient advocate!)

We still have those few doctors who aren’t afraid to fight against this and will do what is best for your health. Always ask questions and do your own research before you agree to a treatment plan and take medications. I am not saying don’t do treatment plans nor am I saying don’t take the medications prescribed. I am saying be wise. Doctors are not Gods although some do have a God-like complex. There are still many wonderfully trained and fantastic medical doctors, holistic health practitioners and neuropaths working hard every day to help us and show us how to heal with what we have presented them to work with. And also that sometimes, your doctor is so involved with treating another issue or diseases that it can make it difficult for them to even see your own symptoms for what they really are.

You have the ability to independently research every medication and the advice that your doctor offers you with the most powerful informational tool in the history of mankind that is right at your fingertips. The internet along with many great search engines where all you have to do is type in a question or a keyword and it will show you many things already being researched by people. There is absolutely no excuse to not educate ourselves. We also still have this ancient thing called a library that holds many wonderfully brilliant written books. We must use our own good judgment and do the research when it comes to our health.

Congress has something called The National Practitioner Data Bank which is a computer database run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that lists damaging information about United States physicians and other healthcare practitioners. Guess who owns this data base? Congress, Insurance companies and big pharma. We won’t even get into the topic of who owns most of our Congressmen and women. The National Practitioner Data Bank keep up with what doctors are prescribing, their action for treatment and what advice they give their patients. It’s really like some of our doctors are puppets and the insurance companies along with big pharma are the puppet masters disguised under the blanket of our very own Congress. If a doctor goes against slinging their medications or were to advice his patients to go a more natural alternative route; the recourse can be many unpleasant things. Slander, destroy their private practice, find something or someone to lie and use this against them aka blackmail or even as far as losing their medical license. Sure this data base is supposed to protect the people but it does more than that and has a sinister hidden agenda laying deep within its core. People in high places don’t want the truth to be told nor their bottom dollar impacted. The truth is bigger than all of us. We are easily disposable to those in power.

Traditional medicine treats autoimmune disorders with steroids and other methods that suppress the immune system.  We don’t need our immune system suppressed, we need it healed.

The number of people suffering from hypothyroidism continues to rise each year. Levothyroxine is the 4th highest selling drug in the U.S. THE 4TH HIGHEST SELLING DRUG!

Every Cell in your body responds to your thyroid hormones. These hormones have a direct impact on every major system in your body.

People are struggling with more chronic disease, chronic pain and are more obese than ever before in the history of America. We seriously need to realize that conventional care isn’t getting us what we need nor healed.

As consumers we put our trust in the research and development of scientific studies, The FDA and The CDC. Drug store chains have quota’s to meet and even some of our Doctors get yearly bonus’s to push certain medications. Little do we know that behind closed doors corporations often pay scientists and these companies to support their product for profit. Some Politicians seem to have a revolving door between the private and public sector. The synthetic chemicals we faced with every day that is in our food, water and the air is simply frightening.

Did you know that products we use every day may contain toxic chemicals and has been linked to women’s health issues? They are tricky hidden endocrine disruptors and are these very tricky chemicals play havoc on our bodies. “We are all routinely exposed to endocrine disruptors, and this has the potential to significantly harm the health of our youth,” said Renee Sharp, EWG’s director of research. “It’s important to do what we can do to avoid them, but at the same time we can’t shop our way out of the problem. We need to have a real chemical policy reform. “The longer the length of ingredients on your food or body product labels means how much unhealthier it is for you to consume or place on your skin. When an item contains a host of ingredients that most likely you can’t even pronounce or remember to spell you can bet your lucky dollar that the natural nutrients are long gone. These highly processed frank n foods or body products are very difficult for the body to break down and some of the chemicals will become stored in your body. Your body doesn’t know how to process it, so it gets stored.

No wonder our bodies are completely bombarded and overwhelmed with the constant exposed to toxic chemicals through the air that we breathe, the water we drink, the foods we eat, and the personal care products and cleaning products we use.

Have you heard of gene mutation? It’s when the cells are changed by chemicals they are either damaged, lost or copied. These processed foods that are full of man-made chemicals, fluoridated municipal tap water, genetically modified foods, refined oils, herbicides like roundup, Artificial sweeteners, vaccines and the yearly flu shot – often contain mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde and MSG, Pharmaceutical medications and a lot of the Pharmaceutical medications are loaded with fluoride, OTC (over-the-counter) medications for colds, allergies, headaches and fever – often contain heavy metal toxins, artificial sweeteners and toxic industrial-based food dyes. Let’s not forget to mention the over use of antibiotics, antacids, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) which completely change the environment in our gut.

It’s not enough to be aware of all the outdoor chemicals that we are exposed to everyday but inside our homes we can have more power and control. Did you know that commercial products are laced with unknown and harmful body damaging ingredients? We have to be more aware about using chemical cleaners, paints, glues, body lotions, toothpastes, underarm deodorants, hair products and pesticides. Instead start using products that don’t pollute our very own bodies. We must do our own research, begin making our own products and become smarter shoppers by reading labels. I can’t stress this enough. Again, we must take a stand for our health.

Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. A number of things can be the reason why you have hormonal imbalances, food intolerances, thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, personality changes, leaky gut, depression, an autoimmune disorder, chronic pain, no metabolism and low sex drive, bloating, anxiety, menstrual problems and infertility. It starts with becoming aware and how your health can be influenced by all these different circumstances.

So, you see, my friends, this is how my quest began. I became my own patient advocate and started raising the bar on my thyroid care while helping others take back their lives from hypothyroidism, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. I believe that knowledge is power. Long hours of research, where I have educated myself and started finding the answer to my health care needs. We each have the capability to heal ourselves. We can become stronger and more confident, especially in controlling our lives with natural solutions, instead of surrendering to life-altering chemicals that we are being bombarded with from every direction. I do believe in some situations there’s a time and place for pharmaceuticals, but it shouldn’t be our first answer, nor the only form of treatment. Wisdom is a wonderful thing to seek.  Every day we INDIVIDUALLY take different paths, come into contact with different chemicals and have different stressors in our lives. Every day we make choices that will impact our future positively or negatively.

As humans we are troubled by so many things. Sometimes, when I sit down to write, I have no idea what I am going to say. I start to begin anyways on a blank word document and eventually the words start following right out of my fingertips where it’s hard for me to keep up. As I am writing, I think about the women who will read my written work and become inspired, what has brought them to this point in their life and I often wonder how this will bless her and help her in her life. Honestly, everything that I write, I start out writing it for myself.

My new purpose is to empower people to embrace who they are, to add value to their life, to inspire them and to connect with those who are struggling with hypothyroidism, hashimoto’s or both. You need to realize that you have to invest in your health. You are worth investing money into yourself and take charge of your health. Will it “hurt” a little? You bet, but it will change your life. The choices you make every day has a direct impact on your life. I want you to learn the true meaning of being healthy and HELP give you the resources to where YOU become successful in your healing journey. You have to start to focus on healing your body naturally from the inside out.

I wish somebody had given me a step-by-step road-map guide back when I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism and then later with hashimoto’s. The solutions in many of my books have helped so many people. I am not promising to cure you either. You have to do the work. I’ve done my best to pull from other professionals in this field, as well as my own knowledge and clinical experience. I want to make it easy for you to find the answers quickly, all in the one place, because I’m all too familiar with that awful side effects of hypothyroidism. I certainly don’t want you to have to spend years finding solutions, like I did. I also want you to understand that there isn’t an easy “one pill” solution, but the “one pill” approach that our current medical system is using is NOT WORKING because the underlying cause for hypothyroidism is not being addressed.

Your body simply can’t heal itself when its full of inflammation, parasites, toxic chemicals, fake foods, heavy metals, pharmaceutical poisons and refined sugars. These things are meant to destroy your health not better it.

We need to change the way we eat. If we are what we eat, then what are you made of?  Food is also just one part of the equation. We need to change the chemicals we use on our bodies and change the chemicals we use in our homes. We have to get back to clean eating, non-toxic cleaning and advoiding chemically loaded body products.

Eat to feed your thyroid. Eat to feed your life. Eat to heal.

Either you are going to eat your food as medicine, otherwise you will need to eat your medicine as food.

Begin cleaning up your environment without adding unnecessary chemicals on your skin without endocrine disrupting products. Could it be that simple? I think so, YES! Chemicals, additives and GMO foods are added to most of all the foods that are readily and easily available on every supermarket shelves. We are so unaware of the things that are added to our foods like hormones, antibiotics, plastics, extra chemicals, addictive’s, cancer causing preservatives, dyes, coloring agents and why? Why would our FDA allow this to go on? To continue slowly poisoning us. Why do we trust the FDA and take a chance on our health, our livelihood and our future?

I’m not going to lie to you. Eating healthy is hard but it’s worth every mouthful! Reading labels, making your own cleaning products and body lotions is time consuming.

I know, there is so much information overload that most people are confused as to where to start.  You can start by taking ownership of your health. Everything has a part to play in your body. Everything has a job to do in your body.  I am on a path to help you, lead you and inform you through this time in your life. Being diagnosed with hypothyroidism isn’t just here take this pill and it will fix your issues. Hypothyroidism has a root cause. Once you start addressing the root of your problems then your body can start healing itself. Your body is an awesome design but there is a complex balance between everything.

Like anything else in life you get back what you give. This is the same for your body.

I want you to know that I see you reaching for the answers to your health. Trust me, I hear your cries and I’ve seen your tears. But, make sure you’re listening. Remember this is a journey and “You’ve got to go through something before you can understand something”.  “You’ve got to know where you been to understand where you are going”.  Are you following me? You may not understand it right now but it’s all a part of you understanding what it’s going to take to make YOU healthy. I can’t just place you there, but I can begin to guide you and you must be willing to go through the steps.

You have to start addressing what the root cause is of your health issues. I say this again, my friend, “Would you take Motrin if you got a rock stuck in your shoe?” Your health issue has a root cause. We often ignore the underlying cause of health illnesses. Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. A number of things can be the reason why you are going through what you are going through with your health.  It could be a wide range of things from celiac disease, Hashimoto’s, leaky gut, autoimmune disease disorder, nutrient deficiency’s, adrenal fatigue, exposure to chemicals, gluten or other food allergies, and hormonal imbalance. It starts with the foods we eat to the chemicals in the environment. Your body can be influenced by many different circumstances.

Many of our “conditions”, “disorders” or “labels” that are put on us can also be linked back to a lack of the proper nutrition and/or vitamins and minerals. Let’s not forget the heavy use of environmental chemicals that is in our water, our air and the products that we use for our body plus homes. Why not do a little research and find what is causing your disorder? Look up what nutritional steps you need to start taking. What environmental things have an effect on your disorder and start avoiding that. Why not give your body a fighting chance to heal the issue at hand with herbs, specific vitamins & other natural supplements? In each stage of our lives our bodies change and we must learn to adapt and adjust what it needs. Trust me when I say, there certainly isn’t a substitute for figuring out the real underlying reason for your “condition”. I am not saying try this solely on your own I would recommend that you get qualified holistic health practitioner or a Naturopath Doctor in your area that will be able to order the appropriate tests for you, and also help you interpret them. Looking at the big picture. Like an onion, you must start to work on each layer and see what needs to be addressed, peeling it back, layer by layer.

I want to arm you with tools that you need to help you start managing your hypothyroidism condition but you have to be willing to give up the things that have made you sick in order to be healed.

The only magical pill for you to swallow is your lifestyle changes. That is where the magic truly happens and it is within yourself.

You have the power to make a difference in your life. You’ve always had the power. No one can force you to become more aware of what you put on your body and what you put in your body. What you eat is just as important as what you put on your body. Adjusting your life, reading labels and catering to your specific health needs isn’t easy but it will benefit you in the long run. This is one of the smartest decisions that you can make. Not only will you start to look and feel better but think of the medical cost that you could be saving your future self.

How would you define good health? Logically one would define good health as absence of a disease or following some sort of ground rules that avoid developing a disease. I wrote this book to help you learn how I beat hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s using clean principles and holistic functional medicine. You will soon start feeling better and to get out of survival mode with Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos along with the redevelopment and healing of your body. Your health doesn’t have to be a difficult situation but a positive realization that things need to change.  Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not but what I have written in this book along with the tips to guide you has worked for me plus many of my clients, colleagues and friends.

This new lifestyle change has many parts to it and I hope you will embrace not only the physical and mental but the spiritual awakening. You must place yourself in the right headspace and be willing to do the work.  It certainly would be nice if one diet, lifestyle change or exercise would work for us all but it won’t.  We are all uniquely wired and biometrically created differently. None of us are the same. We may have similar issues but we are completely different. No matter what, give it your all because deep down you are strong enough to find what works and make it successful for you!

Knowledge is power, always educate yourself and find the answer to your health care needs. Wisdom is a wonderful thing to seek. I hope this book will teach and inspire you to take leaps in your life to educate yourself for a happier & healthier life. The best patient to be is a well informed and an educated patient. The research that I have done for my blogs and my books can make the difference between you having the energy to live your life as you want, or merely dragging yourself through life. Nobody will do more for yourself than you.

You must want to change, be ready to change to start the change.

Everyday small adjustments do equal long term lifestyle goals and changes.

Just think how great it’s going to feel when you are as healthy on the inside as you look on the outside! The ultimate goal isn’t to look fit but to be healthy from the inside out.

You have to take ownership of your health.

One of the most powerful tools to change your health is your fork.

As you read the pages written within the walls of this book you will see that I value natural solutions, authenticity, integrity, family, community and most importantly simplicity.

After 25 years on medication, I am living medication free and my blood work are all within normal ranges. You don’t have to become your diagnosis.

May you have abundant Health, Wealth and Blessings,

Facts about the Thyroid Gland and Thyroid Disease

Facts about the Thyroid Gland and Thyroid Disease

Facts about the Thyroid Gland and Thyroid Disease

The thyroid is a hormone-producing gland that regulates our body’s metabolism— it affects our major body functions for example your heart rate and energy levels. The thyroid gland determines the rate in which your body produces the energy from nutrients and oxygen. The thyroid gland is located in the middle of the lower neck.

Although the thyroid gland is relatively small, it produces a hormone that influences every cell, tissue and organ in the body. Imagine that!

Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.

The thyroid gland sits on the front of your neck and produces a hormone that impacts EVERY SINGLE CELL, TISSUE, and ORGAN in your entire body. How does it do this? The thyroid gland is responsible for maintaining your body temperature, heart rate, and controlling your metabolism. The thyroid gland is very sensitive, meaning that too much thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and too little TSH can cause detrimental effects throughout your body. You see, the hypothalamus in your brain (a very small gland that is a BIG deal) produces thyroid releasing hormone (or TRH). {When functioning properly, your thyroid gland and hypothalamus become a feedback loop that constantly keep your thyroid levels in “balance.” Think of it as a checks and balances system.} TRH stimulates the pituitary gland to release TSH. TSH stimulates the thyroid gland to actually release the actual thyroid hormones (T3 & T4). T3 & T4 levels are monitored by the pituitary gland which (based upon the amount in free circulation in the bloodstream) either increases or decreases your TRH. And the cycle continues.

So, what happens with those people who have hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism is defined as underactive or a low amount of free circulating thyroid hormone (T3 & T4). When the hypothalamus releases TRH, the pituitary stimulates TSH, and T3 & T4 are released. When a person has hypothyroidism, their TSH levels will be elevated but their T3 & T4 levels will be low. These low levels will feed back to the pituitary gland, which will increase TRH, which will increase TSH, and the cycle continues. The brain (hypothalamus that releases TRH) interprets the low levels of T3 & T4 and tries to increase them by increasing TRH and TSH.

A few of the many symptoms are extreme fatigue, depression, forgetfulness, and some weight gain.

It’s estimated that 27 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease and about 13 million (60%) are unaware of their condition and might not ever be diagnosed. Women are five to eight times more likely than men to have thyroid problems and one woman in eight will develop a thyroid disorder during her lifetime.

More than 12 percent of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime.

One woman in eight will develop a thyroid disorder during her lifetime.

Undiagnosed thyroid disorders can put patients at risk for certain serious conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and infertility.

Pregnant women with undiagnosed or inadequately treated hypothyroidism have an increased risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, and severe developmental problems in their children.

Before you heal someone, ask him if he’s willing to give up the things that make him sick.

-Hipporates

Therefore, I ask you this simple question.

Are you willing to give up the things that have made you sick?
