Navigating the Emotional Impact of Hypothyroidism

Living with hypothyroidism can be an arduous journey, both physically and emotionally. In this subchapter, we will explore the emotional toll that this condition can take on individuals and discuss strategies for living beyond hypothyroidism.

One of the most challenging aspects of hypothyroidism is its impact on mental health. The hormonal imbalances associated with this condition can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, and mood swings. Many individuals with hypothyroidism report feeling constantly fatigued, which can further exacerbate feelings of sadness and hopelessness. It is important to recognize that these emotional symptoms are not a personal failing but rather a result of hormonal imbalances in the body.

Living with hypothyroidism can also take a toll on one’s self-esteem and body image. Weight gain is a common symptom of this condition, and individuals may struggle with feelings of frustration and self-criticism as they try to manage their weight. It is crucial to remember that weight fluctuations are a result of the condition and not a reflection of one’s worth or efforts.

Additionally, the cognitive symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as brain fog and forgetfulness, can impact one’s ability to function at work or in personal relationships. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy and frustration as individuals struggle to meet their own expectations. Finding strategies to manage these cognitive symptoms, such as organization techniques and seeking support from loved ones, can help alleviate some of the emotional burdens.

Living beyond hypothyroidism requires a holistic approach that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of the condition. Seeking medical treatment and working closely with healthcare professionals is essential. However, it is equally important to prioritize self-care and emotional well-being.

Engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation, such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones, can help improve mood and overall emotional health. Additionally, finding a support network of individuals who understand the challenges of living with hypothyroidism can provide a sense of community and validation.

Remember, you are not alone in this journey. By acknowledging and addressing the emotional toll of hypothyroidism, you can live stronger and overcome the challenges this condition presents. With the right support and self-care, it is possible to thrive and find happiness beyond hypothyroidism.

At Thehypothyroidismchick.com, coverage is determined based on relevance, clinical significance, and editorial integrity. Please follow along with me on this journey of discovery as I share with you my brush of madness with exquisite clarity. Luckily, I was never a quick fix-it junkie where I said no to many suggestions from board-certified or certifiable doctors because I felt it in my soul that it was merely a bonafide being placed on my issues. The names of certain doctors have been changed because, frankly, I don’t want to be sued for proven the lack in their field.

Hippocrates was right when he said: Let the food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.

Why is America Such a Sick Nation?

What happens when you combine processed fake foods, toxic vaccines, pharmaceutical medications, fluoride-loaded tap water, chemical trails raining from above, Persistent organic pollutants (POPs), corporations poisoning our land, air, and water supply along with and pesticides on the food?

We have one sick nation.

Why is there big money in slowly poisoning people?

Humans have evolved to become one of the smartest species on the planet but we have become dumbfounded when it comes to our very own health. It is despicable how we treat our earth and the other species that share this planet with us.

There is a major disconnection between what we believe to be healthy foods and what research tells us is healthy. Many of the health foods today that people go out of their way to eat daily are hopelessly inadequate and slowly making our bodies sick.

There is a major disconnect with what we are not being told about the harmful ingredients and the harmful side effects of medications, vaccines, environmental toxins, and these fake processed foods. We are tricked to feel ashamed, judged, and guilty if we refuse to fall into the line as many others have while we are being lead to our very own slaughter.

Poisoning people is a weapon of control and why not become wealthy from other human’s demise?

When you have various toxins that are fed slowly, continuously, over time to the body and in different combinations, the responsibility of blame will not lay on one single thing. There are so many awesome and enlightening documentaries’ that are surfacing that show exactly how the lives and health of human beings are considered insignificant, and in many ways threatened, for the pursuit of profits. Each one is educational and unique in its own right. No, not all that I listed are showing how corporate greed, stockholders, and their decisions affect our health but you certainly do not have to take my word for granted.

Take a moment and look at several of these documentaries’-

Hypothyroidism And Synthetic Fragrances

I love to smell good. Don’t we all. Nothing like a good smelling women or man so to speak, right? What a really fun way to stand out from the crowd to be known as the stinky smelling person, right? But is it better to be remembered as the bad breath party person? Oh, the pressure!
The scent will linger on your skin after you have hugged that person at the end of the night or left them after a dinner party. I feel proud, self-confident and of course, sexy when I smell nice and people compliment me on it. I’ve worn perfume for as long as I can remember. If you think about all the beauty products, you use daily on your skin & hair. Perfume can be the most toxic! These artificial fragrances are really messing with our hormones.
Although the FDA “may say” that they require brands to name ingredients on the label, there is a major federal loophole that still allows manufacturers to sneak chemicals under one blanket term – “fragrance”. Due to this blanket term, toxins will make their way into our bodies without us knowing it and of course this explains so many of us have thyroid issues and many are undiagnosed.
This large word “fragrance” can mean so many things and is considered “trade secrets”, therefore, they don’t have to tell us that the real thing deemed as ‘fragrance” are chemicals like benzene, styrene, phthalates, and petroleum. This chemical often find their way into our beauty products and synthetic fragrances. Here we are again with these sneaky hormone disruptors that will mimic the body’s hormones and disrupt our normal body functions, causing our thyroid issues plus other various health problems. Did you know that people who have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer were found to of been exposed to Benzene and styrene and also components that are usually present in gasoline and cigarette smoke are also human carcinogens? Hello, wake up world!!!
Coconut oil is a great wait to start with making your own perfume as a base. If you prefer nothing oily then perhaps a body mist is more your style. You could also simply just add filtered water with an essential oil to get you started but once you’ve found that winning combination that you just adore make sure to write it all down where you will be able to recreate it again. I do like the idea of roller balls for a perfume mix. You can make a larger portion then pour it into a roller ball where you can just glide it on where as needed. Of course place it on all your “heart beat’ points. Spray bottles are also excellent for the mixtures with alcohol and water mixtures.
Perfume Recipe
A solid perfume + Lotion Bar
2 tablespoons almond oil
2 tablespoons beeswax
2-4 drops jasmine essential oil
2 drops clove essential oil
2 drops vanilla extract
You can place these in cute containers.
Pour the oil into a small container. Slowly heat the beeswax in a double broiler. When completely melted combine it with the oil and quickly transfer to a clean container. Let the mixture sit until it hardens – you can put it in the freezer to speed things up. To apply, rub with your finger to soften slightly and apply to skin. If it seems to solid to apply to the skin, then you’ve accidently made a perfumed lotion bar.

Perfume Recipe #1
1/4 cup almond oil (walnut or jojoba oil would also work)
1/2 to 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla essential oil
2-3 drops clove oil
A small spray bottle
Combine all of the ingredients – minus the cloves – and pour into a small spray bottle. If the vanilla doesn’t seem strong enough add a 1/2 teaspoon more. Cloves can easily over power the smell of the other scents so I recommend adding it last. Close the lid and give it a good shake. Spray the body oil onto your skin and rub it in. The longer it sits the stronger the scent will be.

Natural SPF Coconut Body Oil Recipe #2
1/4 cup unrefined coconut oil (spf 8) or almond (spf 5)
1/4 cup avocado oil (spf 15)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essential oil
1/2 teaspoon jasmine essential oil
1 teaspoon carrot seed oil (spf 40) or red raspberry seed oil (spf 30)
Melt coconut oil and avocado oil together over low heat. Allow it to cool briefly. Add essential oils and carrot seed or red raspberry seed oil. Stir to combine and transfer to mason jar with sealable lid. This smells fantastic and that is why I put it in this area of the book. Not only is it a natural SPF body oil but a great smelling one to boot! I like to rub it over my body like people do with perfumed body lotions or sunscreens.
**Note** Always use caution when you are going to be out in the sun for a length of time. I get my daily 20 minutes naturally and then use the proper sun hats and so on. I burn easy but I also need a daily free recommended dose of vitamin D from the sun.

Perfume Recipe #3
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
2 tablespoons pure grain alcohol, witch hazel or vodka
10 drops of grapefruit
10 drops of sweet orange
5 drops of peppermint
5 drops of lavender
1 tablespoon distilled water
Start by adding the jojoba oil to the glass container. Then add the alcohol. Add the essential oils in this order: grapefruit next the sweet orange and lastly the peppermint. Add distilled water with a dropper. Mix well and transfer to a dark glass container to store for 48 hours or up to six weeks. The longer it sits the stronger the scent will be.

The Hypothyroidism Battle Within

When I first looked at this photo, all I saw was another over weight person.  I wanted to hide from the entire world. You can’t see the emotional trauma that I have endured from my hypothyroidism or the fight that I deal with daily.

eatingoutphoto

You can’t see my struggles, my family history, my up bringing , if I was lucky enough to have one or both parents willingly active in my life nor can you put yourself in my shoes.
But you know what’s extremely exhausting?
Looking at a photo of another person and wishing you had their life. Frankly, just trying to be someone you’re NOT.
And you know what’s even MORE exhausting?
Judging myself .
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight, to dress nice, to have a better job or a better relationship with a supportive partner.

There is nothing wrong with wanting MORE.

And if  you’re not comfortable in your body which I was not then it’s perfectly fine to want to change that.
But hating yourself for where you are currently isn’t and that battle needs to start within.
Realizing in this very moment what I’ve just done.

Which was based solely on where I have been , not where I am going.

As, I look at this photo again. I see, more.

eatingoutphoto

Just like you, my story is unique. For so many wasted years, I was a shamed of my struggles, particularly with my body image and embarrassed about my mental health. I couldn’t seem to manage my anxiety nor my OCD. I found myself unsure by my imperfect journey and it seemed for many years that I actually lost myself on this stretch of road that I’ve been traveling on. I didn’t like what I seen in the mirror, all the mistakes I’ve made, my flaws, my inability to control the chaos in my head and most importantly the struggles with my weight. I’ve learned that the mistakes where lessons to get me to where I am today and I couldn’t become who I needed to be if I didn’t travel that uncertain road. I had to stop being concerned with what was behind me! It was behind me for a reason. I’m actually a better person because of it. I dusted myself off and keep going. I started to understand that everything that glitters isn’t gold. I couldn’t be fooled by those SHINY OBJECTS. People that you meet don’t always let you know about their failures. Nine times out of ten they only allow you to see what they want you to see and for you to believe their always winning. I had to learn to stay in my lane and I knew that I would arrive. Anything that I had missed along the journey wasn’t meant for me. I looked myself in the mirror and told myself that: Someone wants what I have!
That MY gift that I am sitting on isn’t mine to keep. I needed to,” Write that book”! My gift means the world to someone else. I knew this in my heart. I felt it in my soul and GOD allowed me to feel it in my spirit.
This book gives me an opportunity to bond with YOU, and my community. I am happy you are here. Let me say it again, I am happy that you are here. I’ve read countless times where people are asking me about losing large amount of hair in their shower, severe dry skin, unable to lose weight and although they might have bought the products from whole foods, it’s just not working! So, it’s my JOY to turn your issue into a solution that is written in this book. Sometimes in life we just need clarity. You have to step out of your comfort zone and focus on where your path is headed. You were born with the capacity of abundance. You need to clear away any of the emotional, mental and energetic debris that is in the way of your ability to see who you really are in order to create the life you really deserve.

My name is A.L. Childers, and I am an internationally recognized published author, blogger and a wellness health coach. I also dabble in freelance journalism and I have over a decade of experience in research and editorial writing. This journey that I’ve traveled on has led me to become a healer and more spiritually-enlightened. I wholeheartedly take a holistic approach to my body, mind and soul. I believe what you put out into the world, it comes back to you good or bad and we make our very own health more complicated than it should be. People have gotten lost in the basic function of how their bodies work. Our cells are cities within themselves and each have their own designed function along with being their very own conscious entities. As humans, we are each on a unique path to find that inner peace. Everything in life is a modest complication of many truths.
I’m was allergic to myself, in theory. Being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and later Hashimoto’s hasn’t been any walk in the park. My entire body is at the mercy of my thyroid. My body immune system is attacking my thyroid gland – as if it was foreign tissue and my immune systems ultimate goal is to eventually, completely destroy my thyroid gland.
After being diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 25 years ago. I knew there was something more than just being labeled with a medical condition and taking a daily pill. There wasn’t a lot of information on how to heal myself and I wasn’t okay with this. I was so hungry trying to find the answer where I could be able to feel real again and I became extremely desperate to get my life back after years of living with a chronic health condition.
My doctor did exactly as he was trained to do. He evaluated me with what I presented him, asked me a few questions in return, listened to my basic body functions and gave a solution to best heal the issue at hand but I needed more. I needed him to become a medical detective to look at all the clues that I presented him and for him to investigate through blood work, my medical history, my lifestyle, my food intolerances, my environment and my vitamin deficiencies. I really can’t be upset nor blame my doctor that the root of my health issues weren’t being addressed. He was doing exactly as he had been trained to do in his 12 plus years of medical schooling plus along with his hands on clinical experience and that was to treat the symptoms that I placed in front of him.
Doctors need to rethink how they approach treating our thyroid issues by:
Analyzing a patient’s medical history and recognizing if there is a problem, performing the correct tests, properly diagnosing and treating the causes of thyroid dysfunction, educating the patient by stressing the need for a lifestyle change, a hypothyroidism style healing diet, vitamin deficiencies, food allergens and adding supplements that they aren’t getting from the foods they are consuming. Also, prescribing the right thyroid hormone replacement and dosages specifically designed for that individual person. We are all unique. You see we each have a story and its completely different from the next person.
I learned that my doctor didn’t have a whole lot of training on nutrition nor the medications they were prescribing either.
Also, what “real” clinical trials the medications went though, the adverse reactions and how they evaluated the effectiveness to the human body. I also learned that most medications were designed to only treat the symptoms not to cure the issues at hand. My best bet was to learn nutrition, learn how my body works, teach myself about herbal medicine from the earth & other forms of natural medicine.
After being diagnosed, I started to read everything that was put out there, anything that would lead me to a topic about hypothyroidism. I would research that topic- if there were text books related to that topic- I would order them and based on reading that book it would lead to me to another book or another article or another research paper. What I have learned was really shocking. There has been information out here for all of us to see. Your body simply can’t heal itself when its full of inflammation, parasites, toxic chemicals, fake foods, heavy metals, pharmaceutical poisons and refined sugars. These things are meant to destroy your health not better it.
The science is out there everywhere people are just choosing not to look at it or many who were like I was simply don’t know they do have a choice.

You do have a choice.

I felt as if I had lost control over my body and my mental health as well. It seems that I had experienced every symptom from lack of energy, anxiety, weight gain, scary heart palpitations, brain fog and this was just to name a few. I couldn’t sleep and where the hell had my eye brows gone? My hair was falling out and the regrowth was thin. I was always constipated, my blood pressure started to increase, my fingertips would get cold and numb just out of the blue, my emotions were all over the place as if I was on an emotional roller coaster. I had aches and pains that it seemed hard to explain to my doctor and my doctor thought it was all in my head. Have you ever had a new car and you just made your very last car payment or the 36-month warranty had just expired and it seems things are starting to breakdown. The excitement of that last payment but yet the disappointed of no warranty left. I felt as if I was beginning to slowly die.

There is a major disconnect between what we believe to be healthy foods and what research tells us is healthy. In fact, many of the health foods today that people go out of their way to eat daily are extremely thyroid suppressive and hopelessly inadequate. I started to become my very own health investigator. I started researching what I need to do to start addressing what the root cause is because that lead to me to this point in my life. I certainly wouldn’t take Motrin if I got a pebble stuck in my shoe? So, why am I going to take this new medication for my thyroid if I didn’t understand how I got here?
As I began researching, I soon discovered that hypothyroidism does has a root issue. I often ignored all the underlying causes of my hypothyroidism. What was I looking for? Like an onion, I needed to see it layer by layer. I started to do a little pruning of my branches, I wanted to be healthy again. My thyroid was being influenced by so many different things.

Why our Bodies are Being Attacked

Fact: Every Cell in your body responds to your thyroid hormones. These hormones have a direct impact on every major system in your body.

Your health is a consequence of actions taken. It is a combination of sequences that you allowed to take place to get you to this point in your life. There is this big lie that we all got stuck in. Listen to me when I say there’s a major disconnect between what YOU believe to be healthy foods and what research tells us is healthy.

As our health goes, you would think that it would be a cinch to diagnose and pretty straightforward to treat. Each of us are unique individuals with different sensitivities. None of us has the same exact routine as far as what foods we eat, what chemicals we are exposed to and what medications we take but yet we all are similar when it comes to the routine protocols that we are given when we come down with an illness, disorder or disease.

Environmental chemicals and toxins, pesticides, BPA, thyroid endocrine disruptors, iodine imbalance, other medications, fluoride, overuse of soy products, cigarette smoking, and gluten intolerance. All of these play a very important role in your health.

As consumers we put our trust in the research and development of scientific studies, The FDA and The CDC. Drug store chains have quota’s to meet and even some of our Doctors get yearly bonus’s. Little do we do that behind closed doors corporations often pay scientists and these companies to support their product for profit. Some Politicians seem to have a revolving door between the private and public sector. The synthetic chemicals we face everyday that is in our food, our water, and the air that we breathe .
Did you know that products we use every day may contain toxic chemicals and has been linked to women’s health issues?

There are hidden endocrine disruptors and very tricky chemicals that play havoc on our bodies. “We are all routinely exposed to endocrine disruptors, and this has the potential to significantly harm the health of our youth,” said Renee Sharp, EWG’s director of research. “It’s important to do what we can to avoid them, but at the same time we can’t shop our way out of the problem”. We need to have a real chemical policy reform.” The longer the length of ingredients on your food label means how much more unhealthy it is for you to consume. When an item contains a host of ingredients that most likely you cant even pronounce or remember to spell you can bet your lucky dollar that the natural nutrients are long gone. These highly processed frank n foods are very difficult for the body to break down and some of the chemicals will become stored in your body.

Pesticides, herbicides, GMOs in our food, fluoride and chlorine and trace pharmaceutical residue in the water supplies, methane, carbon monoxide and industrial pollutants in the air, and the toxic chemicals in our everyday household products.
No wonder our bodies are completely bombarded and overwhelmed with the constant exposed to toxic chemicals through the air that we breathe, the water we drink, the foods we eat, the personal care products and cleaning products we use.
Every Cell in your body responds to the foods you eat, the products you put on your body to the house hold chemicals that you purchase for your home. All of these things have a direct impact on your hormones and in return your hormones have a direct impact on every major system in your body. Not to mention that our body is lacking certain nutrients that heavily influence the function of every cell in our body.

The foods that we consume, oh, the foods we consume.

Sometimes I want to shake people and say, “Wake Up”! You have the power to make a difference in your life. You’ve always had the power. No one can force you to become more aware of what you put on your body and what you put in your body. What you consume is just as important as what you lather on yourself. Adjusting your life, reading labels and catering to your specific health needs isn’t easy but it will benefit you in the long run. This is one of the smartest decisions that you can make. Not only will you start to look and feel better but think of the medical cost that you could be saving your future self.

Disease DOESN’T just strike at whim. What if I told you that most diseases have an underlying ROOT cause? That YOU aren’t some random number picked by nature to have an Autoimmune Disorder, Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, Cancer, high blood pressure, Diabetes or Alzheimer’s. Would you believe me if I told you that you hold the key to the answer.

Did you know that it takes 26 seconds for the chemicals to enter into your bloodstream? Most commercial personal care products are full of endocrine disrupting chemicals that wreak havoc on our hormones. On average women use 9 personal care and cosmetic products per day and this can add up to a mixture up its about 126 different hormone disrupting chemicals and add this to the toxins you’re exposed to each day when you got out into the world. Over 1000 of these ingredients have already been banned in Europe but not here in the United States where our FDA has only banned 11 of those ingredients in our personal care products.
The real reality is we are damaging our DNA and we are changing our genetic makeup for future generations. There was a study a few years back that said the umbilical cord of an average American baby has over 200 known chemicals in it. Eighty percent of the common chemicals that are used daily in this country, we know almost nothing about. Our children are being born toxic and we have no idea if these toxins are already doing some sort of damage their brains, their immune system, their reproductive system, and any other developing organs.

Are we unknowingly setting ourselves up for failure in the womb, even before birth?
Scientists and researchers are concerned that many of these chemicals may be carcinogenic or wreak havoc with our hormones, our body’s regulating system.
Most products have a warning label that is typed in bold “Keep Out of Reach of Children”. As consumers, we believe that if our children don’t ingest these products they will not be harmed by them. This can be far from the truth. Think about other common methods of exposure are through the skin and our respiratory tract. WE are along with our children are often in contact with the chemical residues housecleaning products do leave behind, by crawling, lying and sitting on the freshly cleaned floor.
Scientists at Norway’s University of Bergen tracked 6,000 people, with an average age of 34 at the time of enrollment in the study, who used the cleaning products over a period of two decades, according to the research published in the American Thoracic Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
We are creating a toxic shit storm within our very own bodies. The real reality is we are damaging our DNA and we are changing our genetic makeup for future generations. These chemicals in our body products, our food, our beverages, the vaccines and the pharmaceuticals create a breeding ground for sickness.

Have you heard of gene mutation? It’s when the cells are changed by chemicals they are either damaged, lost or copied. These processed foods that are full of man-made chemicals, fluoridated municipal tap water, genetically modified foods, refined oils, herbicides like roundup, Artificial sweeteners, Vaccines and the yearly flu shot – often contain mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde and MSG, Pharmaceutical medications and a lot of the Pharmaceutical medications are loaded with fluoride, OTC (over-the-counter) medications for colds, allergies, headaches and fever – often contain heavy metal toxins, artificial sweeteners and toxic industrial-based food dyes. Let’s not forget to mention the over use of antibiotics, antacids, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) which completely change the environment in our gut.
It’s not enough to be aware of all the outdoor chemicals that we are exposed to everyday but inside our homes we can have more power and control. We have to be more aware about using chemical cleaners, paints, glues, body lotions, toothpastes, underarm deodorants, hair products and pesticides. Instead start to begin to use products that don’t pollute our very own bodies. We must do our own research, make our own products or be a smarter shopper and start reading labels. I can’t stress this enough. We must take a stand for our health. Stop using commercial products that are laced with unknown and harmful body damaging ingredients.

Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. A number of things can be the reason why you have hormonal imbalances, food intolerances, thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, personality changes, leaky gut, depression, an autoimmune disorder, chronic pain, no metabolism and low sex drive, bloating, anxiety, menstrual problems and infertility. It starts with becoming aware and how your health can be influenced by all these different circumstances.

The bread your buying at the store really isn’t real bread your buying. The white bread in the grocery is not the bread that our ancestors use to eat. 65% of the foods we eat are made from grains that are grown in a field such as grain bread, whiskey pasta and beer just to name a few. Wheat is made up of 3 parts the bran, the germ and the starchy endosperm.
The way the grain is processed has a huge impact not only on the way it taste and how healthy it is for you. Our ancestors used every part of the grain when they made their bread. White bread on the store shelves is made by a industrial process that strips out the wheat into all purpose flour and in most cases if you read the back of the labels you will see chemicals additives added. These chemical additives is what gives white bread a longer shelve life. White bread is also only made from the starchy endosperm which your body turns into pure sugar.
( look at this article https://www.amymyersmd.com/2017/02/3-important-reasons-give-gluten-autoimmune-disease/)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60 percent of herbicides, 90 percent of fungicides, and 30 percent of insecticides to be carcinogenic, and most are damaging to your nervous system as well. In fact, these powerful and dangerous chemicals have been linked to numerous health problems such as:
Neurotoxicity and Parkinson’s disease
Disruption of your endocrine system
Carcinogenicity
Immune system suppression
Miscarriages, male infertility and reduced reproductive function
This information should make you rethink when you are considering whether to buy local, organic vegetables or not.

Our bodies have no way of adapting to these GMO and food like substances that we’ve been consuming. Every cell in your body is wrapped in a membrane of half fat and half protein. If you are constantly feeding these cells unnatural fatty acids, that membrane cannot function like it is designed to do and disease starts at the cellular level.

Dr. Luise Light is a nutrition expert and led the team at the Department of Agriculture that made the original recommendations for the food pyramid. If you review her original recommendations, they sound similar to dietary advice given by nutritionists today: lots of vegetables, more lean sources of protein like fish and nuts, and less dairy and processed foods.
Those guidelines, according to Dr. Light, did not survive their trip to the office of the Head of the Department of Agriculture. She has described herself as “shocked” by the changes that were made. Her team placed fruits and vegetables at the base of the pyramid and whole-grain breads and cereals further up. The new guidelines not only switched carbohydrates to the base of the pyramid, they moved processed foods like crackers and corn flakes, which Dr. Light and her team had placed at the top of the pyramid with chocolate, to the base too. Even with all the edits, the food pyramid was not released for another 12 years.

The American government has massive influence over our diet. Federal policy shapes our farm system to a astonishing level and this also is the reason why our unhealthy school lunch menu remains for millions of schoolchildren.
“Good advice about nutrition conflicts with the interests of many big industries,” Michael Jacobson, co-founder of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, has said, “each of which has more lobbying power than all the public-interest groups combined.” But the real problem is that manufacturers of unhealthy food are so powerful that those interests groups are always the pushing snack foods rather than fruit.
There’s a lot of money to be made selling obesity foods, and you can’t move America in a healthier direction without confronting the salty, sugary, finger-licking, just-one-more-chip financial firepower of the food industrial complex.

If you take the current food pyramid and turn it upside-down that is what our food pyramid should look like.

Looking at the bigger picture. Follow the money. It’s a revolving door. This is bigger than any of us can imagine. It’s more than just being lied to about our food pyramid. This revolving door certainly enables certain private vested interests to have a strong influence, way beyond that of us ordinary citizens, on how the government works, and that the country is still increasingly being run by a cozy group of insiders with ties to both government and industry. Most people keep a blind eye to it and actually its safer to not fight this fight or suggest anything alone these lines if you want to stay alive. This has been termed crony capitalism. People have been killed for lesser whistle blower statements.

I’ve done all the work for you! All you have to do is cook.

May Peace, Happiness and Prosperity be yours during this holiday season and throughout the New Year.

1.Just Let Go of Perfection-

Moments, things and areas of your  life don’t need to be perfect to be marvelous.

We are all human and we should give ourselves a break.

Practice self compassion- You don’t have to attend every holiday party. If you are tired from working all week or just tired in general. Give yourself a time out. You can’t give your best if you are not feeling your best.

Stop beating yourself up over not being able to do everything- Make list of what is most important and do that. Your home doesn’t have to look like a Kardashian or Martha Stuart remember they have people helping them decorate if not doing the decorating for them. If all you can do is put up a tree, then just put up a tree and be happy.

Take smaller steps to what you want to achieve- its easier to make a goal with small accomplishable tasks and this way you can see the things you have done and be joyful.

This year, focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t. Look for solutions instead of repeatedly dwelling on the issues and stumbling blocks.

Besides I’m over being to be perfect because frankly it’s exhausting.

2.Always Stay Hydrated-

Clean, filtered  water helps to cleanse your body — inside and out. Your kidneys need the water to filter waste from the blood and excrete it into your  urine.  Your bowls need it to help keep things flowing or you can become constipated.

It Boosts Brainpower- According to a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, drinking water when you feel thirsty can help you think and act.

It Helps With Appetite Control and Gut Health- although you might not lose a ton of weight , drinking filtered water instead of empty calorie sodas will certainly make a difference on the scales.

Improves your mood-  Lack of sleep isn’t the only thing that can cause  headaches, irritability and fatigue. Studies suggest that increasing your daily amount of water intake can reduce the duration and intensity of headaches.

Remember:  You should drink small amounts of water slowly over time. Never ever chug a ton of water there is something called water toxicity and people have died from it.  How do you know your getting enough water? Take  your body weight and divide it by 2. This is how many ounces a day your body needs.  For example if you weigh 160 lbs. divide that by 2 and you need 80 ounces of water per day for  your body weight.

3.Avoid late-night Eating-

This may  prompt weight gain because your body changes in the rate at which your metabolism functions during sleeping versus waking hours.

Did you know that your body has a internal body clock that regulates sleep and other cycles based on light and darkness which is  your  natural circadian rhythm.  You have two hormones that follow your bodies natural circadian rhythm, which is  Cortisol and adrenaline. These two hormones start slowing down by 3 p.m., as do your energy levels. Have you ever needed anything to pick you up in the afternoon? It might not just be that bad lunch you ate, it is also these two hormones working too.  You see your body is preparing for the end of the day.  So, your bodies  metabolism is slowing down thus it being harder for your body to break down the food you consume.

4.Get Plenty of Sleep-

“Sleep is the only time you’ve got when you’re not doing other things requiring energy,” says Michael Ormsbee, director of the Institute of Sports Sciences & Medicine at Florida State University. “When you totally shut down almost every other action other than staying alive, the body is primed to work on recovery, cell turnover, improving immune function and repairing and regenerating sore and damaged muscle tissue.”

5.Wash Hands and Surfaces often-

Why does it matter you ask?  Illness-causing bacteria can survive in many places around your kitchen, including your hands, utensils, and cutting boards. Unless you wash your hands, utensils, and surfaces the right way, you could spread bacteria to your food, and your family. Always wash your hands with soap and clean running water for at least 20 seconds.

When Should We Wash Our Hands?

before eating and cooking
after using the bathroom
after cleaning around the house
after touching animals, including family pets
before and after visiting or taking care of any sick friends or relatives
after blowing one’s nose, coughing, or sneezing
after being outside (playing, gardening, walking the dog, etc.)

6.Don’t forget to take your meds regularly, and to pack them if you are traveling.

7.Sip Smartly-

Always try to keep both your calories and your buzz under control. Try to go for simply and clear drinks for instance a single shot of vodka, gin, or rum mixed with club and a squeeze of lime will set you back only about 100 calories.  Champagne or pink Prosecco are both great options. Not only are they low on the calorie chart—around 80 to 120 per glass—but they’re also more likely to be sipped rather than guzzled. Another rule of thumb is 1 alcoholic drink by following the next drink with a glass of water.  This way you stay hydrated and you are not consuming all acholic drinks.

8.Holiday shopping and exercising all in 1-

Not time for exercising? No excuse. You can still get your exercise in by walking in the mall when you are Christmas shopping, taking the stairs instead of the escalator in the mall or even doing squats as  you are brushing you teeth. remember every little bit helps.

9.Don’t eat mindlessly , eat in moderation-

10. Fill your plate with healthy food choices-

load 3/4 of  your plate with healthy leafy greens, and the rest with a protein

11.Eat Before Attending a Party-

If you know they are going to have things that you cannot eat or unhealthy options , its not rude to eat before you go. This way you are full and if you want to nibble you can control your snacking.

12.Offer to bring a Something Healthy-

Again if you know they will have things you can’t eat, its not rude to offer to bring a healthy side dish this way you know there is something there you can eat.

13. Grab a smaller size plate size-
It’s been proven by many diet researchers that people eat what’s put on their plates.  Grab a smaller plate where it wont be so difficult to exercise portion control.  In studies, people ate as much as 56 percent less when they served themselves from a smaller plate size.

14. Don’t’ Deprive Yourself-

Don’t deprive yourself , if you just must have a piece of that dessert  then so  but make it a small one. We certainly don’t want you in the fridge at 2am with fork in your hand.  You’ll enjoy this way more guilt-free and not feeling like you’re missing out.

15.Practice Self Care-

The most important piece of advice for those with autoimmune disorder is to practice self care.

16. Relax and enjoy!
It seems that emotional eating tends to increase over the holidays. Try to incorporate relaxation techniques into your day to help manage stress.  I often try to meditate and take three deep, mindful breaths to help reset my mood.

8 Hypothyroidism Juicing Recipes by 13x’s Hypothyroidism Published Author A.L. Childers

Image result for juicing

I’m allergic to myself, in theory. Being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and later Hashimoto’s hasn’t been a walk in the park. My entire body is at the mercy of my thyroid from weight loss to extreme fatigue. My body immune system is attacking my thyroid gland – as if it was foreign tissue and my immune systems ultimate goal is to eventually , completely destroy my thyroid gland.

It’s estimated that 27 million Americans have thyroid disease? And that about 13 million of them are undiagnosed? Women are seven times more likely than men to develop thyroid problems, and women over 50 are particularly susceptible to developing hypothyroidism.

Your body is an awesome design but there is a complex balance between everything. It’s like a domino. One thing in your body that is overworked can cause a major shift in how things operate. Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. There is not one size fits all.

See when your thyroid isn’t working properly it can wreck havoc on your life. Your thyroid is responsible for so many things. it regulates your metabolism, makes energy, adjusts your mood, helps you sleep, even helps aid in good digestion but your see this is where you come into play. Like anything else in life you get back what you give.

You must understand that your thyroid physiology is very complex and  the treatment along with misdiagnosis is very common with hypothyroidism. Not everyone is the same. What has caused my hypothyroidism might not be what has caused yours.

In most cases, hypothyroidism is caused by a beginning rooted immune system issue. According to Dr. Datis Kharrazian, 90% of people with hypothyroidism have Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune hypothyroid condition, whereby the immune system attacks thyroid tissue. Therefore, to cure thyroid disease, or any autoimmune condition, you have to get to the source of the imbalance; focusing on suppression of symptoms with medication alone is simply barking up the wrong tree.

Living with hypothyroidism isn’t easy. This autoimmune disorder comes with so many frustrating side affects. Did you know that it takes 24 to 72 hours for food to travel through your G.I. tract before you have a bowel movement of what you ate the day before it becomes a byproduct of broken down foods that you consumed in those 24 to 72 hours prior? Your digestion system is a very active process that needs many resources that are used from the body such as blood flow and energy to break down your food.
How many of us actually eat seven fruits and vegetables per day? Juicing is a great way to give your digestive system a break and your body can easily absorb the nutrients being consumed but you will miss out on fiber, you might not lose that extra weight, it does help to reduce bloating, but it also can be dangerous when to much sugar can lead to blood sugar swings. Let’s not forget to mention it can become quite expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I love juicing and I tend to go through phases where I juice everyday for months on end then I switch over to smoothies. When we juice we are left with all the super yummy micronutrients and the natural sugars. Try to remember the 4:1 ratio rule. Add 4x more veggies and only 1 fruit. Doing this will ensure that you will cut down on the excess sugar.
Keep in mind that your body does naturally detox every day especially if your eating whole, healthy ingredients while avoiding processed foods and alcohol. Don’t forget all of these recipes can be made into a smoothie as well if you add some water, coconut water , unsweetened almond milk or canned coconut milk.

While most people can consume goitrogens:

It seems that most of your green juice recipes always have kale, spinach or cruciferous vegetables as part of the ingredient in the drink or somewhere in it. Although its fantastic in fighting cancer and have some wonderful health benefits, people with hypothyroidism have to watch their intake of these raw veggies. They can cause huge problems for us with thyroid conditions. These raw veggies can cause the enlargement of our thyroid gland, interfere with the production of your thyroid hormone and can actually act like anti-thyroid drugs, slowing it down and ultimately your hypothyroidism to worsen. You can replace goitrogens with organic romaine lettuce.
The following foods have goitrogens:
Kale
Spinach (raw spinach interferes with the body’s ability to absorb calcium, too)
Bok Choy
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Collards
Mustard Greens
Turnips
Red Radishes
Watercress

You can get these vegetables  a few times per week but cook them. Never eat them raw. I Normally cook mind in raw, virgin, unrefined coconut oil, cold pressed extra virgin olive oil or drizzle with avocado oil. All of these would be great for you!

Symptoms of Thyroid Disease:
Weight gain
Fatigue
Loose stools (too much TSH)
Constipation (too little TSH)
Brain fog/difficulty concentrating
Thinning hair and brittle nails
Low body temperature
Depression (20% of people with low thyroid have depression)
Sleep disturbances
Infertility
Light sensitivity
Joint aches

What’s Important for the Thyroid?

  • The body needs to be alkaline
  • Good fats. A low fat or non-fat diet will weaken the immune system and wreak hormonal havoc. The body needs good sources of fat in the diet to regulate the thyroid.
  • Protein. It is required for transporting the thyroid hormone throughout the body to all of the tissues.

Also, learn your body and learn your foods.  For example:  Turmeric has wonderful medicinal properties but Individuals suffering from gallbladder obstruction, certain medications, people who are at high risk of developing kidney stones, Pregnant or lactating women and people with sugar issues shouldn’t include turmeric in their smoothies.

5 Ridiculously Simple Ways To Improve Your Hypothyroidism

Your body is an awesome design but there is a complex balance between everything. It’s like a domino. One thing in your body that is overworked can cause a major shift in how things operate. Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. Again, I can’t say this often enough. There is not one size fits all.

See we have to get your thyroid to start working properly or else it can wreak havoc on your life. As you’ve read your thyroid is responsible for so many things. It regulates your metabolism, makes energy, adjusts your mood, helps you sleep, and even helps aid in good digestion but your see this is where you come into play. Like anything else in life you get back what you give. You must take control and start today following these tips in this book so you can start healing your thyroid naturally.

Here are the five strategies you should begin doing today.

  1. Heal Your Gut

Your gut is your portal to health. It houses 80 percent of your immune system, and without your gut being healthy it is practically impossible to have a healthy immune system.  A leaky gut have been linked to hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and hashimotos thyroiditis, diabetes, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, eczema and rosacea, and that is just to name a few. So you can understand why a properly working digestive system (your gut) is vital to your health.

Contrary to what we use to believe. We now know that having a leaky gut is one of the main reasons, and probably the beginning stage, for developing an autoimmune disease. Having a leaky gut means that the tight junctions that usually hold the walls of your intestines together have become loose, allowing undigested food particles, microbes, toxins, and more to leave your gut and enter your bloodstream. This will cause your body to become full of inflammation, which in return will start to trigger an autoimmune condition and if you already have an autoimmune condition it will certainly make it worse.

Luckily for you. Your gut is made up of wonderful cells that can turn over very quickly, so you can start to heal your gut in as little as thirty days, by following these 4 R guidelines: Remove, Restore, Replace and Repair

Remove the damage — Remove these inflammatory foods, household & body  chemicals, drink filtered water( to avoid fluoride and chloride) , stop using aluminum brand deodorant, start using fluoride free  brand tooth pastes, start to reduce your stress that damage your gut,  do a detox to heal any gut infections from yeast, parasites, or bacteria.

Restore the Strong — replenish the enzymes and digestive acids that are necessary for proper digestion

Replace with friendly Bacteria — Make sure you are taking plenty a good strong probiotic that is full of these much needed “good bacteria” to start supporting your immune system. Here is a great product that I use. You can do your own research and I am sure there are other brands out there that are wonderful too. Garden Of Life Dr. Formulated Probiotics Once Daily Women’s, 30 Count

Repair the digestive Tract — Give you gut a fighting chance by supplying the nutrients and amino acids needed to build a healthy gut lining. (Gelatin can improve your ability to produce adequate gastric acid secretions that are needed for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. Glycine from gelatin is important for restoring a healthy mucosal lining in the stomach and facilitating with the balance of digestive enzymes ( Here is a brand that I use    Garden of Life RAW Enzymes Women, 90 Capsules)  and stomach acid.  The best way to consume gelatin make them into broth or soup. You can do this by simply brewing some bone broth at home using this Bone Broth Recipe. If the appeal of drinking broth from dead animal bones doesn’t seem that appealing in-which I personally find the average commercial brand of collagen pretty gross. Most collagen supplements are produced from the bones, skin, and connective tissue of animals, including cattle, fish, horses, pigs, or rabbits. The idea of drinking bones+ connective tissue from dead animals doesn’t appeal to me at all. Even if they say it’s from “grass-fed animals”. YUCK!I  get my  COLLAGEN that is made from fish the brand I use is a Marine based Collagen and it is sourced from the scales of wild-caught, non-GMO Red Snapper , wild-caught in the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii using sustainable harvesting instead of being sourced from the hides of pasture-raised, grass-fed bovine.

  1. Change Your Diet

We are creating a perfect shit storm within our bodies. The less nutrients we consume, more toxins we add, create this world win of health issues. It’s sad that our western diet is made up of red meats, vegetable oils, white flour and sugar. Who would have thought that something so simple as eating has become so complicated? Food does matter. It talks to your DNA. Food can change your DNA!

The foods you eat have a major impact on autoimmune disease — It affects your gut health and along with increasing or decreasing the inflammation in your body. Unfortunately, our western world diet are full of foods that have a bad impact on both your gut and your inflammation. Start with eating whole foods that are anti-inflammatory.  For instance, omega-3 wild fish, leafy greens and turmeric. If it was made in a lab, avoid it. Do a little research and you will find that our western diet that is made up of processed, fake foods, chemicals, sugar and corn oils are all highly flaming the fan of your inflammation.  Begin to start reading labels. You will soon discover that health foods such as low-fat and gluten-free packaged foods, which are often loaded with sugar, additives, and preservatives. Grains, dairy, legumes, eggs, corn, and soy are not the cornerstones to a healthy diet anymore they can contribute to a leaky gut and inflammation.  Did you know that Gluten triggers the release of a chemical called zonulin, which tells the walls of your intestines to open up and by doing so this releases toxins into your bloodstream?

Feed the masses and feed them cheap.

Think about what you’re putting in your body. Either you’re fighting disease or feeding disease. You must get a concept of nutrient density. Many of the foods we tend to eat, block nutrients from being absorbed. Gluten, dairy and soy products create inflammation in the digestive tract. In ancient times grains were prepared by soaking, sprouting and fermenting but that tradition in making them been long forgotten with our fast-paced culture. If you have inflammation in the digestive system undigested proteins leak into the blood stream creating a heightened immune reaction that often makes your thyroid issues worse and can lead to a leaky gut which causes other problems.

  1. Reduce Your Toxic Burden

These are commonly found in items like antibacterial soap, deodorant, lotions, and makeup. These things are poisonous. Your skin is the largest organ in the body. Whatever you put on your skin goes into your body. I can’t preach this enough. If you can’t eat it, then don’t apply it to your skin. I understand this might not be 100% doable but every little bit helps your body. Every day we are exposed to a huge number of chemical toxins without our own doing. It’s in our water, the pollution in our air, the insecticides and herbicides that are is sprayed on our food and the chemicals that are spray on our lawns.

Environmental chemicals and toxins, pesticides, BPA, thyroid endocrine disruptors, iodine imbalance, other medications, fluoride, overuse of soy products, cigarette smoking, and gluten intolerance. All of these play a very important role in your thyroid health. A nonprofit group called Beyond Pesticides warns that some 60 percent of pesticides used today have been shown to affect the thyroid gland’s production of T3 and T4 hormones. Commercially available insecticides and fungicides have also been involved. Even dental x-rays have been linked to an increased risk of thyroid disorders.

Did you know that products we use every day may contain toxic chemicals and has been linked to women’s health issues? They are hidden endocrine disruptors and are very tricky chemicals that play havoc on our bodies. “We are all routinely exposed to endocrine disruptors, and this has the potential to significantly harm the health of our youth,” said Renee Sharp, EWG’s director of research. “It’s important to do what we can to avoid them, but at the same time we can’t shop our way out of the problem. We need to have a real chemical policy reform.” The longer the length of ingredients on your food label means how much more unhealthy it is for you to consume. When an item contains a host of ingredients that most likely you can’t even pronounce or remember to spell you can bet your lucky dollar that the natural nutrients are long gone. These highly processed frank n foods are very difficult for the body to break down and some of the chemicals will become stored in your body. Click on this link to see what you should avoid.

Pesticides, herbicides, GMOs in our food, fluoride and chlorine and trace pharmaceutical residue in the water supplies, methane, carbon monoxide and industrial pollutants in the air, and the toxic chemicals in our everyday household products.

No wonder our bodies are completely bombarded and overwhelmed with the constant exposed to toxic chemicals through the air that we breathe, the water we drink, the foods we eat, and the personal care products and cleaning products we use.

The Centers of Disease Control found traces of 212 different chemicals in a group of people that they studied over the course of five years, and that’s only the chemicals they tested for! Your body is absorbing all these toxins.

Nobody knows the effects of all these chemicals has on our bodies and yet thousands of chemicals are in regular use daily. By you having a higher toxic burden it puts a strain on your body and puts you at greater risk of developing an autoimmune disease.

I understand that you can’t live in a bubble but you can start reading labels, you can reduce you’re the daily toxic burden on your body.

Be mindful of what you eat.

Be mindful of what you put on your body. (Read labels)

  1. Heal Your Body

People don’t want a weight loss product. People want and need the health advantages that a slimmer body will give them. You have to start addressing what the root cause is of your hypothyroidism. Would you take Motrin if you got a rock stuck in your shoe? Hypothyroidism does has a root issue. We often ignore the underlying cause of hypothyroidism. Sometimes we have to do a little pruning of the branches, in order for the tree to be healthy again. A number of things can be the reason why you have hypothyroidism. It could be a wide range of things from celiac disease, Hashimoto’s, leaky gut, autoimmune disease disorder, nutrient deficiency’s, adrenal fatigue, exposure to chemicals, gluten or other food allergies, and hormonal imbalance. It starts with the foods we eat to the chemicals in the environment, your thyroid can be influenced by many different circumstances.

Most of your “conditions” and labels are a lack of the proper nutrition and/or vitamins and minerals. Why not do a little research and find what is causing your disorder? Look up what nutritional steps you need to start taking. What environmental things have an effect on your disorder and start avoiding that.  Why not give your body a fighting chance to heal the issue at hand with herbs, specific vitamins & other natural supplements.  In each stage of our lives our bodies change and we must learn to adapt and adjust what it needs. Trust me when I say, there certainly isn’t a substitute for figuring out the real underlying reason for your “condition”.  I am not saying try this solely on your on I would  recommend that you get qualified practitioner that will be able to order the appropriate tests for you, and also help you interpret them. You can click on this link and just place in your zip code. It will help you find a Naturopath Doctor in your area.

Looking at the big picture. Like an onion, you must start to work on each layer and see what needs to be addressed, peeling it back, layer by layer.

  1. Relieve Your Stress

Many of us find ourselves in this cycle of so much responsibility that at times it seems impossible to manage. We are over worked and the chronic stress is breaking us down. Chronis stress keeps our cortisol levels elevated. If our cortisol levels are staying elevated, it begins to interfere with many other areas of our body which are the immune system, digestion, sleep, and even the ability to produce other essential hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and YES you named it last but not least our THYROID which can cause an autoimmune reaction. Do you see the cycle?

We must try to begin to tackle our stress and start to manage it.

Stress not only effects your immune system but by revving up your immune system, it begins to produces a wave of inflammation.

Let’s face it your immune system needs a long vacation from all the stress you’ve put it through. Just enough for a fighting chance to get back on track.

Take a walk, read a book, take a relaxing Epsom salt bath, start a yoga class, meditate, walk your dog. The key is to figure out what works for you and relaxes you.

I want to arm you with tools that you need to help you start managing your condition.

You have the power to make a difference in your life. You’ve always had the power. No one can force you to become more aware of what you put on your body and what you put in your body. What you eat is just as important as what you put on your body. Adjusting your life, reading labels and catering to your specific health needs isn’t easy but it will benefit you in the long run. This is one of the smartest decisions that you can make. Not only will you start to look and feel better but think of the medical cost that you could be saving your future self.

We need to be kind to ourselves. Give our bodies a fighting chance. If you constantly feed your body crap then you are making it susceptible to inflammation, viruses and disease. I want to help you become successful in your healthy journey by applying the empowering techniques many of my blogs have to offer. This article has been written by a person who has had real struggles with a hypothyroidism but has worked through them. I am going to “keep it real” with you.

You know that healthy habits make sense, but did you ever stop to think why you practice them?

Hypothyroidism Foodies: Tips on how to be successful in the kitchen

When you are starting the eat to cater to your hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s disorder, every meal seems to be a challenge. Once you start to eliminate all grains, processed foods, caffeine, soda’s, fake food and any food allergens you seem to be left with what can I eat?  Each week I decide what I am going to eat. I like to plan ahead. I like easy & fast. Since my kids have all grown up and its normally me here alone in the evenings, cooking for one is rather boring and I am honestly, burnt out from cooking all these years.

We are creating a perfect storm within our bodies. The less nutrients we consume, more toxins we add, create this world win of health issues. It’s sad that our western diet is made up of red meats, vegetable oils, white flour and sugar. Who would of thought that something so simple as eating has become so complicated. Food does matter. It talks to your DNA . Food can change your DNA!
The foods you eat have a major impact on autoimmune disease — It affects your gut health and along with increasing or decreasing the inflammation in your body. Unfortunately, our western world diet are full of foods that have a bad impact on both your gut and your inflammation.

We’ve been molded and brain washed with the American standard diet. You see, there are so many healthy options possible and available at your fingertips that if you know what you can eat all you have to do is google recipes for that food item and create your own dish. Have google and imagination, will travel, right? Please don’t feel this is complicated. It’s not.

Avoid Grains, dairy, legumes, eggs, corn, and soy which these foods are not the cornerstones to a healthy diet anymore they can contribute to a leaky gut and inflammation.

Tips on how to be successful in the kitchen!

1. Never skip breakfast!  Keeping your blood sugar stable throughout the day is important. You dont want your blood sugar to drop nor get to high. Eating breakfast does jump-start your digestion and fire up your metabolism, as well as helping the body regulate blood sugar levels.  Also, when you skip breakfast it makes your adrenal glands respond by secreting a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol then tells the liver to produce more glucose, bringing blood sugar levels back to normal. What happens when you have to much cortisol? It collects around you midsection. With hypothyroidism you already have higher levels of cortisol in your body than someone without hypothyroidism. Cortisol is that hormone that is involved in the “flight or fight” response. Before you go grab that donut or high carb breakfast remember the word,  metabolic syndrome. There is a strong connection between  thyroid dysfunction and metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is caused by chronic hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). When you gobble down too many carbs, the pancreas secretes insulin to move excess glucose from the blood into the cells where glucose is used to produce energy. But over time, the cells lose the ability to respond to insulin. After so long of your insulin knocking at your front door of the cells, , the cells stop hearing them. The pancreas responds by pumping out even more insulin (knocking louder) in an effort to get glucose into the cells, and this eventually causes insulin resistance. So with all this being said How should you handle breakfast with hypothyroidism?

  1. Never skip it
  2. Wait 1 hour after you have taken your thyroid medication and wait 4 hours after your thyroid medication to take any supplements. Also, if you take other medications check with your pharmacists to make sure its okay to take it along with your thyroid medications.
  3. Drink lemon water with your thyroid medication.  It cleanses the digestive system and gets your metabolism firing on all cylinders.
  4. Pick a low GI and healthy protein with a healthy fat for breakfast. I  love eggs and I am not allergic to them but many are. I eat 2 boiled eggs, sauerkraut along with a tablespoon of coconut oil (healthy fat) and a splash of organic applecider vinegar in my decafe green tea.  This is your breakfast. Be creative. 11. Since we are talking breakfast try to hit the re-bounder for at-least 5 minutes too.A rebounder is great for getting your lymph fluid flowing and keeping your thyroid healthy. The lymphatic system and thyroid play a big part in your metabolic rate, so getting them moving is a great option.
  12. MeditationStart your day our with meditation and a grateful heart. There are many people who weren’t able to wake up and live another day.   I can’t even begin to express the importance of  the power of meditation has over the body. It’s been proven to lower your  levels of  cortisol which is also known as the stress hormone. I like to start my day off listening to mediation music to clear my head while I have my legs up against the wall using this yoga pose.

Legs up the wall pose will not only help with your thyroid functions but it also relieves back pain, helps with insomnia, improves posture, helps with anxiety, naturally adjusts your spine, improves your digestion and it starts a lymphatic circulation. Your  lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump and relies on our movements and gravity to circulate lymph fluid where the toxins in this fluid can be eliminated from your body. If we sit all day the lymph fluid becomes stagnant and start to collect toxins. By simply reversing the flow of gravity in your legs, you begin to circulate the lymphatic fluid and encourage the body to start the elimination of toxins.  Dry brushing also will simulate the lymphatic system and improve skin tone.  Image result for yoga legs on the wall picture

13.  Perform the 5 Tibetan Rites

These 5 actions, when done together and in the recommended sequence, can help jump-start your metabolism.  They include spinning in a circle, doing leg lifts, arching your back, making a table, and a full body lunge.

She’s able to complete it in a little over 10 minutes, so this is something that you can work into your busiest of mornings, and will set the tone of calm and tranquility that washes over the rest of your day.

2. Meal prepping

On Sunday I always meal prep because it helps improve my time management throughout the week, helps keep me stay on track, saves me money, helps me regulate my portion control , helps me stay mentally in the game and has been the #1 one strategy that has helped me eat healthy meals and snacks throughout the week .  Since this food task has already been complete I don’t worry about what I am going to eat.  I can open up the fridge and grab what I need. Meals stored in the fridge will usually last three days. I never chance it further than that others do.

3. Leftovers are wonderful

Sometimes you just dont feel like cooking the next day. There is nothing wrong with eating dinner for breakfast the following day. Sometimes you just get so busy that you barely have time to think. Let alone have time to meal prep for the week. Your short on time so how about cooking meals that work double-time and I personally think taste  even better after sitting a day in the fridge.

4. Try Batch cooking.

Batch cooking to me runs on the same lines as meal prepping but your freezing these meals to grab later and cook. This also can help you stay on track with hypothyroidism diet by being prepared.   A simple way to always have food ready is to batch cook. When you batch cook you spend a little longer in the kitchen by preparing a big load of food that you can warm-up the following days.

5. Slow cooking

6. Address Food sensitivities

Food allergies

If you allergic to certain foods it is will involve your the immune system. Your know that your immune system controls how your body defends itself. Your body see’s inflammatory foods as invaders and will kick in your autoimmunity responses.  For example if you have a food allergy to cow’s milk, your immune system will see cow’s milk as an invader. In-return your immune system overreacts by producing antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE). These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction to start fighting for your body. Being tested for food allergies seems to be easiest way to check to see if you have any food allergies so you can start avoiding these foods and help your immune system become strong again.

7. Fix your gut

Probiotics can help to begin repairing the lining in your gut. This also aids in helping to  balance your hormones. if someone has leaky gut syndrome it allows undigested food particles to  leak through your gut into your bloodstream and in return creates disease-causing inflammation that will have a  impact on your body — especially your thyroid glands where they are very susceptible to inflammation.  Did you know that your gut is the largest component of your immune system? It introduces friendly bacteria into your digestive system that helps to keep illness’s at bay and they are rich in live bacteria that help us absorb nutrients along with maintain proper microbiome gut balance.  Research has proven that gut health could affect inflammation, allergies and autoimmune disorders in the body as a whole. Around 1,000 different species of bugs live in your gut. Your gut has been linked to contributing to weight loss and for overall improvement of numerous symptoms, including depression, anxiety, brain fog, skin problems, hormonal issues, immune weaknesses, digestive problems, and fatigue.
